Swapped a worn out column out of my 75 with one from a 69. Figured I'd just adapt the wiring. After spending a lot of time looking at the turn signal and emergency assemblies and matching up wires, I still don't have it working. Anybody have information on what color from a 69 matches with what color from a 75? I looked at diagrams and compared old parts but no dice. Turn signals were working before the swap, just weren't cancelling. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't have diagrams for either one. Off the top of my head, I would look at each diagram and right down these wires. You may have to look at the lighting diagram to get these. You would need:
The color of the left rear turn/brake wire
The right rear turn/brake wire
The front left turn bulb wire
The front right turn wire
Those should be all the outputs. In the diagram where they show the bulbs, all the above bulbs will have a brown wire shown alongside the other color. This brown wire is the running lights(I am assuming Ford used brown back then), so just ignore that wire.
The inputs to the column would be:
Color of the power wire coming from the brake switch.
Color of the power wire coming from the turnsignal flasher.
Color of the power wire coming from the hazard flasher.
You may have to do some head scratching on the horn wiring. Most of them have one wire, and it grounds in the column to activate the relay. But sometimes they have a different system, so check that out.
I may have forgotten something, so someone chime in here if I did. You should be able to find all the seperate components listed above in each year diagram, and write down the color wire that feeds it.

Thanks. I don't know how much time I've invested in this thing over the last three or four days- have decided to put the original column back in. Decided I didn't want to relocate the emergency flasher switch. I rebuilt the borgeson joint. I need a new turn signal switch (not the cam) and I'll probably end up ordering a new one.
The color of the left rear turn/brake wire 1968= #283 Red-White Stripe, 1977=#283 Yellow-Black Stripe
The right rear turn/brake wire 1968= #282 Green, 1977=#282 Green
The front left turn bulb wire 1968= #3 Green-White Stripe, 1977= #3 Green White Stripe
The front right turn wire 1968=#2 White Blue Stripe, 1977= #2 White Blue Stripe
In 1977 & 1968 the above bulbs will have a brown wire shown alongside the other color going to the rear lamps. In 1968 the Rear was # 285 was brown and the front was #11 Black Yellow Stripe. The brown and black yellow stripe wires are the running lights, so just ignore those wires.
The inputs to the column would be:
Color of the power wire coming from the brake switch. 1968= #810 Red-Black Stripe, 1977=#810 Red Black Stripe
Color of the power wire coming from the turnsignal flasher. 1968= #44 Blue, 1977=#44 Blue
Color of the power wire coming from the hazard Switch. 1968= #810A Red-Black Stripe, 1977=#385 White Red Stripe
Note 1968 #810 & 810A merge at plug "S" going to Turn Signal Switch.
Note 1968 Emergency Warning Switch will feed front wires #2 & #3.
Thanks for the detailed response. Printed out your colors and went and compared. I swapped a few wires around but still no go. I know that the wiring is right at this point. I am planning to test the 4 wires feeding the lights for continuity to ground. I know I've got a few bulbs out so I will replace those first. At this point, I won't be using an emergency flasher- don't know if that affects anything.
