I'd like to start a FAQ. I got an idea from another forum as to how it should be layed out that should work well.
I know that whenever I see a good topic, I keep it in my favorites so I can go to it later on. I'm hoping some of you do the same, and we can dig up some threads for reference info...
I'd like to compile a list of the most frequently asked questions...but need help in coming up with that list of topics. I also need help in writing the answer to those questions, as I don't have the time to write it all myself. I know that many of you can answer these questions better than I can.
Stuff like...
"what size tires will fit on my truck xxx"
"basic performance upgrades"
"my front tank pumps fuel into the rear tank, what do I do"
"my speedometer needle is bouncing...what do I do"
etc...questions we see often that can be answered in a general sense that applies to many users.
Some of this could be turned into tech articles for the site, or just an FAQ for our section...
Thoughts and ideas are welcome.
Lets start by generating the frequently asked questions, and we'll worry about the answers after we compile a good list.
So guys, what questions do you see here often that would be good for the FAQ? I'm looking for the basics, esp things like "what to do when buying a used truck of this era"....
I will take all FAQ suggestions into account, but will have to pick and choose what ones are best for the section.
"checking computer codes" is a great example!

i am not saying that this is not a good idea, but i think that if you use the search function you will find the same answers.
i always do a search when i am looking for an answer on this forum and 99.5% of the time i find it.
a lot of the repeat questions are new forum members so maybe when registering they need to read something to explain to them how best to use the forum before they put that first post up about something that has been discussed a hundred times.
just my opinion on this.

I've found that the search can be time consuming and pesky.
Sometimes, I don't blame someone for not bothering with the search, it can be a PITA.
I figure it would be good to organize some of this data to make it easier for people. I figure it wouldn't take much from a group effort and be helpful...
I always try to stay open minded...open discussion...
I actually posed this idea a few years ago. Dennis didn't think it was a good idea, he thought it was a good way to get new users acquainted with the board - something along those lines.
I can DEFNITELY come up with some faq/answers.
I got nothing to do at work on Monday, I'll do it then.
It looks like Popa was giving a Boolean search string for a **** site of some kind!(BFG) I think that the FAQ would be a good idea - I have a hard time with the search function as well - and yes, I have tried it many times. I could come up with numerous topics for the FAQ so let me know when you want to start receiving some specific suggestions. I would also be willing to help with writing the replies to a limited number of topics where I feel confident enough to give good information.
The search feature provides all the answers for common questions because they've been covered 1000 times.
However, the search feature, while neat, taxes the server significantly more than reading posts, like in a faq, so if new people read faqs more often than searching, everyone else can hit the server and read, post, etc.
I often get a mesage "Server too busy", especially in the early evenings.
Justin, let me know if you want me to contribute. I tend to know/do more off the wall stuff... but I'm here if you want me to participate.
I'd like to start recieving question ideas right now....we'll worry about the answers later.
Just shoot out some questions that you see are fairly simple to answer and don't require back and forth conversation. The checking computer codes and tire size fitment is a great example. Facts can just be put down for others to read.
I think the search is more beneficial to more experienced users, who know what to look for. I don't want to discourage use of the search, I just want to have a source for simplistic info...
Frederic, a lot of the things you do would be great write ups for our tech articles
Glad you post what you post because it gives others ideas and influences their confidence.

"My Check Engine Light is on, what do I do?"
"How do I get diagnostic codes from the computer?"
"How do I change the heater core?"
"Where is the _____ sensor?"
