Lift Appearance

Hey guys, I have a 1978 F-250 Lowboy with a 400/C-6 and I'm getting ready to start my appearance restoration. Right now my front springs are sagging REAL bad but my rear ones look REALLY good. The rears are so good, in fact, that they look like they are higher than most, almost like highboy springs on the rear. Now I know these trucks are already pretty high but I want mine to look a little beefier than the rest and I think that a little lift will do the trick. I want just a little more lift than stock but I want my truck to be as level as possible. How much lift would you guys recommend on the front and rear to do this? I want approximately 2-4" of lift so I was thinking that I should get 4" front springs and 2" rear blocks. Would I be lifting the front end too much? Should I just ditch the old rear springs and get new rears, too? Basically, how much lift should I put on each end to level the truck out and provide it with a beefy look? Also, I am thinking of putting a winch on later on down the road. Is any special consideration required for that? Any opinions, suggestions, comments, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

you could try putting spacers in the front end...I have never used and don't know what they are like, this would solve your leveling problem. Then you could put 3" body lift on to make it beefier. This way it's not really big, but it does look bigger.

But I have heard that body lifts are just soooo bad. They throw everything out of alignment for a measly 2 or 3" of lift. I have heard that if you get a 4" suspension lift, all you have to do is get a drop down pitman arm or a drop drag link and you are set.

I've bought two trucks with body lifts already on them and took the body lifts out of both of them. I would recomend getting your front lift installed at whatever height you want then buy whatever height blocks you need in the rear to level it out.

My friend just put a 3" body lift in his truck and everything seems to be very normal (steering, how it handles, etc...). I just put one in my 76 and it also worked very well. But I am new to big trucks so take somebody who has more experience's advice.

ok I have to say something. I would call one of the many aftermarket suspension builders and just see what they have to say. Maybe even 2 or 3 and if they all tell you the same thing then take there advice. they are the ones that do it everyday
