I recently put a cb radio in my truck and i can't get the antenna workin rignt. i can't seem to adjust it to get the swr's down at all, i have tried many antennas, 2 swr meters, and 3 cb radios. when i adjust the antenna, the swr reading stays the same. if any one could help me it would be much appreciated because i am new to cb radios. thanks, ford78f250
What kind of antenna are you using? I have a matched & tuned pair of firesticks mounted on my truck, and I've gone through 3 radios now, and th antennas are still perfect even though I have a new radio mounted up there.
I'll go ahead and tell you my setup. A Cobra 18wxst, with dual 3 foot black fiberglass firesticks matched & tuned.
1988 F-150, SWB, 5.0 EFI (formerly 4.9 EFI), M5OD 5 speed, 3.08 gears, Summit shorty truck headers, Custom built Flowmaster exhaust system. Force 4 LP6000 lightbar, Federal signal PA-300 100 watt siren, Icom IC-V100 50 watt mobile radio.
=======================================
1965 F-100 (just purchased 1/18/01), SWB, 390, C-6 auto. Dual exhaust, Not much else to do to it.
Of the radio and antenna, the antenna is the more important. You will do better running a $10.00 radio and a $50.00 antenna, rather than the other way around. Try a K40, (I ran the big magna mount)they had a tunable fiberglass stick as well. As Kyle posted the Fire stick is a good one.
Get a radio repair shop to set the standing wave for you.
