I am to the point where I am redoing the brake lines on my 59. I am staying with my stock drums for now. My question is if a drum brake master cylinder (with duel cylinders) from a 67 - 72 F100 would work? If so, now would be the time to change the lines.
Also, if I need to stay with the stock master cylinder, can I run the steel line directly to the master cylinder (with a loop like the newer ones have) and do away with the rubber hose connecting the line with the MC that is stock? I have not been able to get a replacement hose.
Clint- there is a few things you need to check out before changing the master cylinder. The dual cylinder master is fine, especially if you plan on putting discs on the front. You need to check the mounting holes to see if they bolt up the same on the master cylinder. Also you have to have the correct length for the push rod, meaning the piston in the master cylinder should have the same depth. Otherwise it should work. As far the looping lines, you don't need to do that. You can run them straight. Not sure if you MC is on the firewall or underneath the cab on the frame? With the new master cylinder I'd run new lines directly to the MC and then to the brakes. It's pretty straight forward. Make sure you double flare the brake lines or you'll be in a heck of mess. You may want to check the 67-72 Ford Mustang Master cylinder. I think they fit right on. Take you master cylinder to a brake parts store, they'll match you with something. That's what I did. No guessing!!
