Can I replace my '64 single master cylinder with a later model (1985 F100) manual brake dual master cylinder. If not what is the best off the shelf dual master cylinder to install in a 64 with four wheel drums. I want something that I can pick up at the local parts store. I plan to replace all of the brake lines and hoses.
You must stay with a master cylinder designed for 4 wheel drums and very close to the same diameter bore as the single pot cylinder you now have. You CANNOT use a disc/drum master cylinder, it will cause problems. Also remember that the rear brakes are fed off the front reservoir and the front brakes off the rear reservoir. You will likely need to change/adapt the pushrod to get the correct pedal height. Most people have used something like '68 Mustang, early '70's 4x4 F series, or similar to install. Make sure you match the mounting holes to your existing one.
