I have an original 1978 Ford truck brochure and it lists the following as optional radios: AM digital clock radio, AM, AM/FM, and AM/FM Stereo.
I know you could get an 8 track stereo in Ford cars of that era, since my mom had a 77 T-bird with one when I was a kid.
If you are looking for one, try the classifieds on this site or Motor Haven to see if anybody is selling one. I found one or two orginal Ford radios on Ebay a couple months ago, but they were getting around $50 for them. I ended up having a new AM/FM CD player professionally installed in my truck. They did have to cut the dash, but it looks pretty good and you can't beat today's technology!
