Hey,
I have an 02 excursion that I bough an 08 radio for from an econoline. I was told that they would fit with no issue. I would like to add xm to the radio, but I have no clue which kit or adapter to buy. I'm refering to an adapter kit to play it through the stock ford radio, not an fm modulator or an external XM radio. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Welcome to FTE. If your new radio doesn't say XM , or XM Satellite ready there isn't much you can do except get a roady 2 External head unit. Even with a satellite ready head unit you still have to buy an xm box that wires to your radio, plus the antenna. Hope this helps.
Yeah I know that I've got a few things to purchase, but I was told that as long as the ford radio had a SAT button on it that I could do it. I was told I would need an adapter and the XM hardware. Guess I'm asking what do I need to work this out.
THanks again
Well you didn't mentioned the SAT on the radio. Just take it down to the local stereo installer and get the equipment needed. Your not going to find it at Wallmar
I have a 2001 EX,I bought a radio from Ebay that came out of a 2005 Mariner w/SAT button. I made sure that the connectors in my truck matched the connectors on the radio because Ford uses 2 types of plugs P II plugs and World plugs, mine had the P II plugs. I bought an Axxess XIA-D01 Kit and it was basically plug and play. The only problems I'm encounteriitng is when I turn the truck off and start it again the XIA-D01 smart device switches to the IPOD input even though theres no IPOD attached. A quick press of the power button (radio) off then on again cycles it back to XM Radio again. I've been told that the smart device might need a software update which I'm working on getting a programming cable for it now. There is also a kit from Terk that is suppose to work too, though I've not seen one up close. A good place to look is Installer.com - Stereo and alarm - Ipod integration, wires, tools, kits, do it yourself parts, wire harnesses, radio kits car auxiliary stereo for automotive. i hope this helps.
Well I picked up the Terk Kit. It doesnt mention the excursion on it but it does mention a few years of the econoline so I'm really hoping it fits. The local shop which does major type work was clueless about fords and XM.
They must be lame installers. I live in a hick town and the local car audio shop did a killer job for me. I haven't listened to regular radio since 2003. I've put in a xm radio in the Big X. I let the shop do my 03 s-10 due to the fact it was a new Alpine and needed an adapter, and the Magnum came with sirius installed. I hope it all works out for you.
Gents, I'm very curious about this topic. In my 2000 EX, there was no satellite, and no CD6 or changer. I would rather use the stock install than aftermarket.
I read above that the plugs should be the same, but when I called a lad that sells the radios, he stated the computers and harnesses were entirely different.

Currently I have the stock CD radio.
End result I'd like is to have the CD6 / satellite enabled.
Help!
