Step foward...cab painted and polished to perfection, then bolted down to a fresh rolling chassis. Step backwards...floresent light fell from ceiling, landed on roof of cab. No dents just long scratches. Now I remember why I just used primer on the last project.

I feel your pain also.My kids strut tower brace from his 96 Mustang was hanging on a hook over my truck.Hook broke, brace met painted fender and left egg sized dent.
xfordman, if you used basecoat/clearcoat no problem. Just water sand the scratch out, put some basecoat color on it where you sanded it, then clear coat it over. Have you had experience on burning the clear in on spot jobs? If not, it is very simple. Clear over the basecoat about 4 to 5 inches into the old clear thats on it then when you put your last clear coat on. Dump the gun out and use your clear reducer in the gun and spray around where you overlapped the new clear into the old. This melts the clear together. Let er set, then ultra fine it with 1000 or 1500 grit sandpaper and buff er out. If done correctly, you wont notice a thing. Done it many times. wayne

Oh, man that sucks! I remember my first little trip down the driveway and back in my '53. When I backed it up to the garage my Labrador Retriever decided to greet me by putting his paws on my door and sticking his head through the window. I now have three little scratch marks about six inches long going down my driver's door. Oh man, I was sick and really upset. Oh well, I guess it is still just primer, but it is the "finished" paint job as far as I wanted it, flat black.
What kind of paint did you use? As already stated, it might not be hopeless. I had a repro stock style hood spring explode, causing a repaint. Sickening feeling for sure. Good luck.

Acrylic Enamal...three coats, sanded with 400 wet then 1200 then 2000 followed by a wool pad and 3M finesse-it. I used this paint instead of CC because I didn't want that new car wet-look. These old trucks (53-56) don't have many large panels so paint repairs can be done by painting the whole panel. Thats why I don't fill any seams connecting two panels together. Anyway, I was just ticked off and had to vent a little, now it seems inconsequential.
