i will be purchasing an `05 f250 soon.i know i will want to change a few things.has anyone installed components in the front and rear doors?which size did you get to fit in them?thanks.if you have to move this to the stereo portion, feel free, wasnt sure.
I got a set of MB Quart 5x7 components in my front doors and some old JL Audio 5x7 coaxials in the rear doors. For the components I thought about different places to put the tweeter and I ended up mounting it coaxially with the supplied mount. I know that's not ideal, but I didn't see anywhere else I really wanted to put it. Mounting them up by the mirrors would bring the sound stage way too high for my taste.
I've got an '04 BTW.. but I'm pretty sure it's the same on the '05.
In my 04 F250 CC I was able to install Infinity Perfect 6 1/2 components all the way around. I have the tweeters just above the woofer. There is a lot of room in there for most any speaker.
Since some of you have attempted this, does the stock radio have enough oomph to drive four component speakers (Infinity Reference 6810cs, probably) without the aid of an outboard amp, at moderate volume levels?
I'll install an amp sooner or later... just trying to do the project in small, manageable pieces.
I replaced the fronts and installed a Pioneer radio as I wanted to do the system over time like you. The next day I blew the L/F door speaker and took out the channel in the amp, You might just want to get it over with all at once.
I did a lot of systems in highschool "over time" and it's hard on your dash board since you have to take it appart too many times.
If you collect the gear and do the install all at once, everything only has to come appart once. Check my gallery and/or PM me if you're looking for info since I got to know my interior pretty well.
thanks for all of you guys` input.i had ywo stes of polk db 6.5`s in my ram and they sounded really nice.i was thinking about doing the same setup in this truck.crutchfield has a nice deal on them.
The rear "center console" box is out. Anything involving the hump is out for me. Anyone played with mounting the subs behind or under the rear seat? A pre-fabbed box would be best, but I suppose I could build something if needed...
JL Audio has center console cabinets with 1 10" driver made to fit either interior option. When you say no hump, do you not have a front center console of any kind?
I like my JL Audio stealth box.. pic in my gallery but you can't really see it.. just looks like the middle of the 40/20/40 bench. Single 10. Good sound, not super loud(I have about 200 watts to it). NICE install but might be a little pricey for some.
Yeah, I've got a center console. 30" Havis-Shields Consolidator console which racks all of the communications equipment, lights/siren controller, etc. and is also the mounting base for the Toughbook laptop mount. Essentially, the center of the truck from the dash to the front of the rear seats is out of the picture.
I don't want much thump... a single 10 should be more than sufficient. I'm thinking either underneath the left 40% of the rear seat (downfiring?) or behind the right-rear seat... just curious if anyone's tried this before.
