ok heres the deal, right now i have a 600 watt 2 channel amp running a 10" in my truck, i had 2 10's but took one out....anyway, ive been looking at getting a component system, but i dont wanna buy a new amp or anything, should i take out the sub and use the amp to power the components?...or should i run the components off my h/u?.....and also i will put the components in the doors, what should i put in the back?....5x7's will fit, whats gonna be my best options with everuything i just laid on the table for you guys?
Quite a few companies make 5x7 components. DB Drive, Boston, Alpine, MA Audio and a few others. A lot of you have heard me talk about them... DB Drive makes a 5x7 coaxial/component that fits in your factory location and includes a crossover for your frequencies. Great speakers.
What brand and model amp (asking to see how it will go with the components if you decide to drop the sub). Also for the components kicker makes some 6.5's that come with 5x7 adapters which is what I would reccomend for the $. Also putting some components on your HU for power def. will not get the fullest out of them. Also if you dont wanna buy a new amp bc of money you can find a nice budget hifonics for around $90 or a small refurb kicker from hifisoundconnection.com for $50 and up. Any more questions let me know.
Tell you the truth, I wouldn't go with anything Kicker anymore since they started mass-producing like they are. Their quality went pretty far down.
As far as whether to get a new amp or not. I deffinately say you should. Get a 4-way amp and you'll be set. As far as what brand, I'm partial to Eclipse, I love their stuff. JL Audio is another good brand, but they're a bit pricey. KC Auto has some pretty good deals on his site, and the DB Drives are supposed to be pretty good quality.
Now for components, I believe you should go with Boston, Infinity (I believe they make components in this size), Eclipse, JL Audio, Focal (expensive), and DB.
I agree. Truely disappointed with kicker as well. I had a fully sponsored Kicker and Sony Mobile ES vehicle in 95 thru 97 until it was stolen. Back then kicker could hardly be touched. Their 18s were unmatchable which I ran four of those bad boys. That was also around the introduction time of their solobarics which I had three of their 12s. They were the product to get for years. Now they are just an ordinary product. I recently installed a pair of kicker comp 15s for a guy and was sad to see that they were so wimpy. The magnet is gone from what the comp used to be. We yanked those turds and replaced them with some DB Drive Platinum PL15s. Pretty much doubled the bass. The pics of the truck are the 99 tahoe in my install gallery.
Yea, I still have an old school 10" Kicker CVR that still hits pretty hard. It's not installed in anything right now, I thought about giving it to my friend that had his stereo stolen about 6 months ago, try to help him build up his system up a little so he can at least reach some lower frequencies at ease. But Kicker has gone down the drain IMO, and I hate to see it like that because I live in OK, and they're from Stillwater. But I guess they're doing what they wanted, and that's to make $$.
