4" or 6" tuff country lift

I'm looking at either 4" or 6" tuff country lift. Question is what do I have to do extra for a 6" lift that I would not have to do with a 4"? Example brake lines, or anything else. Also can I fit 35" tires with a 4" tuff country lift? Does anyone have a picture of a bronco with either of these lifts?

Thanks
John

As far as what tires will fit with what amount of lift, check the Big Bronco FAQ's in my signature. My gallery "In Memoriam" shows a '92 with the 4" Tuff Country lift and 33's under it. You will have to extend brake lines with EITHER lift. Otherwise the only difference would be ride height and tire clearance. The process of installing either lift would be the same.

if you plan to wheel it then a 6" would be needed to clear 35's with out rubbing. a 4" would work but expect it to rub if you are out playen. as for everything else Grey is correct.

Oh, make sure you plan on re-gearing as soon as possible for the larger tires or your mileage, hill climbing power, and passing power will go right out the window. Mine still had 3.55's with those 33's and it sucked.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm already planning on regearing, I have 33"s under it now (stock) and hill climbing sucks. Haven't really checked milage yet, but I 'm sure it sucks to. I wanted to hold of tell I deceided which lift and which tire size I will end up with. I noticed a few people here have 4" with 35" tires and that the Bronco FAQ's says you can only fit 33's, so I wasn't sure. I guess I'll have to go with 6" since I will be using it offroad and I want 35's. Anyhow thanks again for the info.

With the 4 inch lift extended brake line are not needed. the 6 inch lift it is. That is the only difference in the installs. I have 33s and there is not loss of power or speed on hills with stock gearing and i have the 302, but then again i think my axles might have been rebuilt as they are not stock covers on them so that should tell you something

I beg to differ with you on this one. Adding 4" of suspension lift necessitates extending brake lines lest you leave your suspesnion dangling by the OEM lines. Extending IS necessary with 4" of lift. 4" of lift usually adds at least as much increase in articulation and the OEM lines are a tight fit with the stock suspension at full drop. IF your Bronco rolled out of the factory with the factory optional 4.10 gear ratio in it then you probably wont' see much change by going up to 33's from the stock tire size which is pretty close to 29".

I agree, you need extended brake lines for a 4" lift or higher.
I would look into Radius Arm drop down brackets for better handling.
The 4" or 6" lift kit wouldn't have that much of a difference in price, and even though a 4" lift would clear 35s I'd still go with the 6" for the added clearence.

For regearing I'd go with at least 4.10 gears depending on how much it sees the road or off road for that matter. Lockers are a good thing to look into while doing this, at least they won't hurt to throw them in there.

i would think that you would have to have longer driveshafts with 6"?? esp with any off roading........

I've seen you need longer driveshafts every now and then, not all people do and if you shaft is to short then you can get a longer yoke and it should fit.
At least this is the case with the 78 79 Broncos, I wouldn't think it'd be much different than others.

you wont need longer DS with a 6" especially his year.

MBBford drop down brackets do not improve handling. the extended radius arms improve handleing. the drop down brackets make it a lot harder to align and put a ton more stress on the frame. they also limit wheel travel/articulation . the extended radius arms are the way to go if the kit offers them. also steer clear of blocks, Add A leafs are far better to lift the rear of the rig or a new leaf pack but that gets spendy to.

have fun

Or you can do a shakle flip, wich also has it's pros and cons.

There are tons of info about shackle flips and Lift Kits on another forum.

But you have to read between the lines.
