I have a 96 f150 4X4 with SuperWinch manual hubs. I notice a squeaking noise as I start to drive that may be from both front wheels. The noise continues at all speeds. Brake application does not alter it nor does engine speed. It is road speed dependent. Is there some way to lubricate the hubs or wheel bearings? It seems to have appeared after driving through 12-18" water caused by a thunderstorm. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!
You also may have gotten water in the u-joints and tie rod ends. If they are greasable, I would grease them soon - it pushes the water out. If they aren't, then keep an eye on them, they may start making noise soon.
Re-greasing wheel bearings is pretty easy. What I would do is go to Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and buy four new bearings (inner & outer on each side) and take them to a brake shop and have them greased. The tool they have to do it works much better than what you can do by hand. Then just swap them out when you get home.
Ya know, I have a 96 also, and I have had the same issue. Mine turned out to be the innner grease seal, whenever it gets really wet, it then squeaks afterward. I have tried to run a thin coat of lithium grease between the 2 mating sufaces, but to no avail, I ended up having to replace it. I think it was about $25 for the seal.
