Apparently, I'm in an area where double-yellow's mean slow down. Then, of course you can speed back up to (and beyond) the speed limit once you've cleared the double's. This is true even in the designated passing lanes.
I get into a 45 zone, the person in front of me is doing 50-55 (fine), come to a double yellow and for some reason they have to slow down to 35-40 (seems like every time) then floor it once they're in the clear again.
May be that I moved from bumper-to-bumper and am now in a slower paced area, but I don't know why someone has to slow down that much as soon as they see that double yellow.
(Putting it nicely) This method of driving irks me.
I was being truethfully sarcastic because it seems that everytime I'm behind someone, they always slow way down when they come to the double yellows then speed up where you can't pass them in the passing zones.
There's a 10 mile stretch from where I live going to town that has about 3 different no-passing zones and I run into these morons every time I go to town.
Maybe they're justing being jerks thinking you want to pass and don't want you to, either passing or no-passing zone. Or maybe it's something in the water...make sure you stick to bottled stuff
They might have read the same book that says to speed up 10 mph when the road goes two lane/ passing lane, no matter how much they hold you back normally. It irks me, too. Between the double yellow and passing, a 55 speed limit could mean 40 to 70 mph - and it's never steady...
Double yellow in CA means no passing. A dashed line means passing. A dashed and solid line next to each other means you can only pass if you're in the lane that has the dashed side.
Carlene, twin 50's under the hood work wonders on those types... I wish I had room for those nice quad 50 setups. The flying brass is a terrible traffic hazard tho.

Yah know...I've been looking at my step rails wondering if it would be possible to make them slide out a bit further with the press of a button because they are the perfect size to house twin BAR's.
Means the same here in MS......no passing. Now there are slower posted speeds on the highwyays where a intersection occurs and here where I live, the local cops are quick to get you for speeding if you exceed that posted limit.
Yeah, it means "No Passing" everywhere in this country, as far as I know. But it doesn't mean "Slow Down and be a jerk". There is feeling of general cluelessness that so many people on the road exhibit these days. Makes you wonder how many cereal boxtops they had to send in to get their licenses.
I think everyone missed the sarcasm. I'm with you, Speeding isn't the only form of bad driving. Some people are absolute perfect drivers in the eyes of the law, but have absolutely no sense of curtousy or common sense. I would say that 99% of road rage is caused by those drivers.
People do the same thing in those double passing lane zones. They might be doing 40 in a 65 but as soon as they approach one of those double lanes they hammer down! -grrr
Most of the time double yellow lines are used when there is poor visibility of the road ahead (curves, blind driveways, peaks) so it makes since to slow down to aleast close
to the speed limit in these areas. Most people on the road just want to make it home safely, and around here your just going to get to the next stop light quicker by speeding so you might as well slow down and conserve a little gas and save some money, and possibly yours or somebody elses life.
It's the unconscious feeling of not wanting to be passed. I get it all the time. I've got a section of road I have to travel every day that has a section of passing lane on it, and halfway through it is the left-turn lane to go into the small town nearby. I stay in the right lane because I'm not looking to set any world speed records, and my turn-off comes up in another 1/2 mile anyway. There's always some person who has to go blasting past me (and I'm not poking along either) in the left lane, only to stand on the brakes and pull into that left-turn lane. Totally pointless. What did they save time-wise by speeding up to pass me, a second? I guess they think they get Brownie points for every car they pass!
