Double means no passing.

I came a cross a jerk like you described couple of times. The same driver the first time he did exactly what your jerk did. I evenlty passed him and he flip me off. Couple of days later i came across the same guy. he started doing the same thing. I bumped him he pulled over and let me pass. Then he bumped me. I stopped in the road stepped out of my truck. He then saw how big I was. We exchanged some words and i got my point across. I see him on occations. He longer does that. To me a at least.

At least not all the idiot drivers are in Cali (sure seems) and other states have the same, is this what they call "progress"? Remember the center suicide lanes where it's a bad thing when two cars enter it in the opposite direction.

Around here they mean do not cross over. This not only includes passing, but also turns. IE, don't stop and block traffic while trying to turn left over double yellow lines. The exception seems to be if double yellows form an island between the travel lanes. Usually in this case it's ok to enter the island area to turn (unless otherwise noted). Passing in these islands is a huge no-no and will result in a personal invatation to the county courthouse or a demand for money if one gets caught.

Newbe here, and like this site already. Last time in Florida I understood that all the above to be true, but when in D-yellow area is also where speed traps are more likely.

They had none. No training at all. Not even a driver's test.
I remember my grandfather (who would be 98 now if he were still alive) said that he just went to the couthouse and paid $.50 for the license. No idea what year that was.

There was a simple test when I got my license. Not to many questions tho. I had a license b4 I took driver's ed. The driver's ed test was hard and you had to get a 98% on it to pass. It is too bad they don't make driver's ed a requirement anymore. It was a victim of budget cuts.

After driving for 4 years on the roads and highways, I went to get my license at the age of 16. The written test I don't remember but the driving test was 4 right turns around a 2 block area and I dropped the testing officer in front of the test facility so he could do the next test!

"There is feeling of general cluelessness that so many people on the road exhibit these days. Makes you wonder how many cereal boxtops they had to send in to get their licenses"

I'm still laughing at this one.....and I think it may actually be true!!!

We have a requirement here for drivers ed. I think it's based on age. Under a certain age the DMV requires a passing slip. The public school doesn't teach it, but they sub it out to an outside company that gets paid by the students, (Mom and Dad). I know, because I paid $300 last year for one of the kids to take the class. It does make insurance cheaper though.

And I think the instruction is better, too. I know in some districts, being the drivers ed teacher was the kiss of death on a teachers resume. Once a drivers ed teacher, always a drivers ed teacher. I think my kid came out a better driver than I was at that age. Of course, she's not sitting on 300 hp either.

Next time she drives me, I'll have her hammer it when we get to a double line, in the spirit of this thread.

I can steal 7 cereal boxtops from the kids, do I need proof of purchase with them so I can get my 18 wheeler license? What would be your hair color if your bald? Can a photo be taken with the turbin on or off? Lets see, 45 mph in the left lane and take my half of the road out of the middle, yea i'll pass.

Thanks for all the reply's.

Actually, I know what the double yellow means - it's pretty much the same throughout the country (and probably other countries to boot).

I was venting on how people drive. I think it's a power issue only because this driving habit is usually not attribited to "old folks", only blamed on them. The elders down here either drive fast or slow, they don't care what the road rules are either way. I can live with that.

It is, however, hard to live with the not-so-old folks that act like they're screwing with you on the road. Hence - slow waaaaaaaay down at the double yellow, and speed waaaaaaaay up once they've cleared the doubles. Basically, the everyday JERK.

I go 5mph over the speed limit, if you're behind me and I see you want to pass, I'll stay my speed through the doubles and then slow down, and even sometimes go to the easement a bit to let you get by.

I know what the lines mean. I've driven them all my loooooooooooong life. I'm just not use to this "rude" style of driving.

Unfortunately, this "rude" style of driving seems to be the growing trend. I've never met so many jerks on the roads as I have in recent years. As the roads get more and more crowded, this "Me first, to hell with everyone else!" attitude just gets more prevelent.

The solution? I don't have one...does anyone else?

Very true Dan -

I don't know, maybe it's that I was use to the way things go in the big city and I just never notice it. Could be, and now, just maybe, I need to learn to go with the flo - very hard to do. Going from the standard 8 lane roads to 2 laner's is a trip in itself.

Still, very hard to understand as it appears that many of these people do this on purpose. JERKS..............

Edit: I guess people in heavier traffic don't have the time to be jerks on purpose.
