Question Wheel Size Question

Does any one know the size of a 65 steel wheel. Bolt pattern, width, 15 or 14 in ch and the middle holes width. I am going to measure mine but I thought someone might know off the top of there head.

I need the info because i am looking to find the original wheels to run the hupcaps that came with my truck. the hub caps are the small one that only cover the lugs. I have looked around at some sites and have found some wheels that look like they might work but am not sure of it. if anyone knows a good site that has oringinal wheels for sale it would be great.

thanks

Stockton wheel has or can make nearly any wheel size/lug you need, not sure their web site but a search should be able to come up with them! I think the bolt pattern is 5 on 51/2 off the top of my head, but not sure.

Some of those ran 16 inch rims. No 14 inch rims. There were optional 15 inch ones also. You can run a rim from a 48-66 Ford F-1 or F-100 in the 16 inch size. These take a hubcap that pops into the center. It has an area of 8 inches in diameter. I have a bunch of F-100 caps for your truck. I can give you a good deal. I can send you pics if you want.

I beleive that in 65, the base F100 would have had 15" rims. barry is correct that earlier 16" rims will work, though I am uncertain if the "innie" style caps will fit on the older rims. Moreover, the older late 50's rims were ungodly narrow, like 4 inches.

Here is a link to some pics and more info: http://www.hermannsonline.com/f100/rims/

I have not updated that site in a while. I now have 7.00x15R tires on my truck. Those are original size, but radial. Yokohama makes them. They look nice. Base model in 65 had silver painted hubcaps, black tires (not whitewall) and black rims. If you want a pic, say please nice and I'll take some. My truck on my web site has Wimbleton white rims and silver caps -- which was correct some year, just not 65!

Finally, do you intend to do disk brake swap? Carefull, as the disk hubs ARE longer and will give you trouble with the stock hubcaps. Wheel spacers will fix this, but they make steering harder, and weaken the spindles. I solved it in a more radical manner -- I had some pretty beat up hub caps, so I used a hole saw to make them look like 4x4 hubcaps with lockout hubs. Now the tops of the grease caps show. But the hub caps fit and its really not very noticable.

If you want your truck to be correct pay close attention to the whole "innie" and "outie" hubcap issue. Your 65 needs the "innie" type without a doubt. I have an extra set of correct wheels. Only problem is two are on my truck. For some reason the P.O. had two of each kind if wheel on the truck, and a correct spare. So I scrounged another old wheel so I would have a complete set. Next thing I know I find a virtually new set of "outie" wheels. I mean these things are super clean with factory stickers still on the inside. No rust, ever! Somebody set them off at the local dumpsite. Bias-ply tires and all!

I just need an excuse to get off my butt and do the swap out. Money is a little tight and with my full faced 66 style caps the swap would not be any great change in apearance for me. Wish I had a friend with a tire shop.... by the way did any 65's come with factory white walls? The P.O. has white walls turned inside..

i totally need the innie style because i have the original spare. i looked for ever for them but with no luck so i was just planing on finding some similar looking steel wheels, paint them black, get some chrome bullet and lugs and run some wide whites.

but i do have the caps that came with the truck so i would like to run them. they look like a coke bottle top on the edges .

thank all of you for your replies.

In 64-66, tou could get both, innie and outie rims, for the F-100.THe outies had caps like the 64 cheapo galaxies.

Outie rims were for 66 Custom Cab I beleive.

I tried to get new rims from Stockton Wheel -- there is nothing that is quite right in the catalog, but I never called.

There are old rims around -- shipping is 15-20, but guys will sell them for reasonable price. Try posting a "wanted" add here and over at Slick 60's MSN site.

Now, I have 9 total -- 5 painted Wimbleton white and 4 black. I haven't decided which set I like best, so I won't part with either (all have been blasted and powder coated). If someone were in the KC area, they would be welcome to borrow the white ones (they have 205/75R15 tires on them currently) for a trial run to see how they look.

CD, Didn't the CC have full disks? I know that was an option.

Jowilker -- what do you mean by "full disks"? 66 CC had larger, Galaxy style hubcaps that fit on the "outie" style rims, like Barry says. Perhaps those hubcaps were an option too, but I didn't think so. I don't know for sure though.

I do know that there were no disk brakes till 69 or so.

In my search to find my wheels I got a number of a guy named Bill Peters. He works at a company called All Ford Parts out of CA. After talking to the guy they have mine and all kinds of wheels. He gave me the price of $65 dollars per stock used wheels. But if you don't want the stock width you can get them made up to 14 inches using the stock centers. He priced out 7" for $75 per wheel.

They are all used but he said if I wanted them it takes a liitle while because they true them to make sure you get a nice set of stock wheels. He said they mostly cut the centers out to make custom widths but if you want stockers they are there.

Well if I can't find them any where else I guess I will start saving.

Would you guys get stock at 5.5 or wider?

Chopper -- you have power steering? You ever try to turn a 10" wide tire by hand?

$65 for stock rims is WAY too much, unless it includes shipping AND powdercoating. In that case, I suppose its not so bad, but still a lot more than I paid.

I paid between $5 and $20 for rims, plus shipping in some cases. $15 is what my local Cross Tire here in KC charges to acid dip, then powder coat. I don't know what it costs elsewhere to powder coat, though I think that the local price here of $15 is quite reasonable.

No, I don't have power steering and yes 65 is to much to pay, but the salvage yards around here have not produced crap for me in the wheel department. I ma not going to run 10 in rims but that dude can make them if some one were to want a pair. I just did not know if there was any reason to get 6" or 7" instead of the stock 5.5"

I still look at lunch everday and I will no time soon have the money to buy them at 65 a pop but maybe I will find some soon around here.

I just thought that the guys rollin in dough might need the info.

Post a wanted add over at slick 60's. There are lots of fellows that like purdy krome wheels and have an old set of rims just laying around. Or they know where a set is. I offered $20 plus shipping and got several takers.

cd, The Galaxy type is a full disk, and should fit any 15" wheel. The smaller dog dish as they are refered to, fit either inner or outie to the inner ring just beyond the lugs. The inner fit inside of that ridge and the larger outie fit on the outside.

Disc brakes is another thread.
