I tried searching for this and couldn't find an answer. I am wondering if the crankshaft in a 1999 5.4 2V Expedition is forged steel? I'm thinking it's a steel crank in all 5.4 trucks, but again not 100% sure.
Welcome. I think only the Cobra 4V engines have a forged steel crank. Possibly the Lightnings too. Unless you are turning over 6000rpm, the cast crank will work fine.
Thanks for the info. The motor was just recently pulled out. It is almost ready to go the machine shop, but still waiting for the bottom end to be broken down. The motor it self will end up being a procharged 4V. I want a very strong bottem end.
I would look into a Lightning crank since it is going to be supercharged. You might check out dssracing.com. They have many good parts for these engines.
The motor originally had 32,000 miles, dropped a valve. Had walls checked and they are good to go. The crank (eight bolt flywheel) I found out from the shop, is a steel crank. Great condition. Now that I Know the block is standard I can order my other internals. Thanks for the website, I'll check them out.
Why can't you bore them????? If not, can you bore big and resleeve down to the correct size?
because there is nothing there to bore out. these are not the old enignes which could be bored .060 over these can barely take a .020 and even then you risk going to thin.
