For the last several months mine has been getting harder to start with a poor idle. Untill this weekend I had to start between 5 to 15 times to keep running. This weekend I removed the injectors, soaked in bucket of carb cleaner overnite and reinstalled, Wow what a differance. Now what can be doon to prevent this agean?
Ps 03 6.0 driven 1500 miles a week, truckstop diesel (Pilot usually), cleaner and lube ran about every 3 tanks
You must have edited when I posted, there have been drivability issues noted by some owners at or near the 5000 mile mark (close to oil change time). You might consider decreasing your interval, or switching to synthetic. Possibly using and oil analysis program to get you the most for you dollar. (seeing where you can safely push the oil change limit to without being detrimental to the engine) Remember high pressure engine oil fires the injectors on the 6.0, any excessive carbon, could be the cause of thier sluggish operation. I take it you are hotshotting, or really driving the wheels off of it. Maybe using powerservice, or stanadyne in max concentration would help.
Thanks for the info. What other problems, if any have you had? May quiet down the naysayers lurking here who feel the 6.0 is not a reliable, quality built motor.
I am waiting for Amsoil to build the adapter for there dual remote bypass like I had on my 7.3 but for now Ill stay with Rotella.
I run with 11000 gvw everyday and commute 80 miles each way plus working construction in an adjasent city.
My driving habits havn't changed since purchas new in 03 but that doesnt mean that extended drain isn't the problem. I ll try changing sooner to see if that does't help I NEVER want to remove these injectors again....
Great, glad to hear you are happy with your truck. You pulling the injectors and cleaning them yourself is kinda like an inside joke around here. You should have been here last week when all of this pandolerium was going on. I think both threads got locked, but you can still read them if you like, you might get a chuckle out of them. One was Personal 6.0 Investigation on page 6, and How reliable are the 2006 PSD's on page 7.
Injector removal is easy on a 6.0. There are no oil manifolds that need to be drained prior to removal. The hold down bolt is used to pop the injector out. If you have an early 03 that coughs and sputters and smokes upon a cold start up and the EBP tube has been replaced and or cleaned, they did have an updated set of injectors to put in to take care of the above issues.
I have traveled 127000 miles in two years with the factory injectors and feel kinda attached to the $280ea replacing thim will cost. When a reman becomes readily available ill probably change them out but until then I'll do all I can to keep them clean and I said getting to thim was hard. Changing, and cleaning them wasn't
