on my way to work this morning sitting at a light the fuel light goes on...this is the first time i had the fuel light go on and be able to go straight to the gas station leaving from the light.
i fill up my truck and clicking it 3 times it only goes to 23.3 gallons and i have a 29 gallon tank
i guess it good - i should never be able to run out of gas
does everyones light go on that soon?
i thought about this too, i was sitting level at the light

Reason: removed WTF
I've not gotten that low on my '05, but my '99 PSD would get near empty on the gauge, the computer would say I had 5 miles to go, but I never pumped more than 26 gallons into the 29 gallon tank.
The light always comes on after driving between 600-615 miles in my truck. (Starting out with a full tank of course.) There is usually 8 gallons left in the tank out of 38 gal. if I am foolish enough to believe the light and hit a gas station right away.

I can see by your gallory that you have a long box so you have a 38 gal tank, are you really getting 20 mpg with that truck?
Actually, my average is around 19-19.5mpg highway and empty. The tank holds a little more than the published 38 gallons. I'm guessing it's closer to 40 gallons. With the 3.73's, I could do 20.5mpg easy, with the 4.30's, Im down to 19 to 19.5 but it'll pull an 11k trailer beautifully now. (At 5-9mpg though!) In town, it's around 15 mpg, maybe 16 on a good day.

Man, I need a truck like yours because I can't seem to get over 10 city and 13-14 hwy. And from what I have read most others can't either. What have you done to it to make it run so well?
As for my gas light...it comes on and I put about 24 gal in.
Well, unlike you rich folks, I have a 2WD regular cab, 5.4L, 6-speed manual in a stripped-down XL truck. I'm not pushing a 7500 lbs truck around like you guys. That'll get you some descent mileage, although not with the power and style of a 4WD Crew Cab Lariat V10 or diesel though.
i have let my computer go down to "17 miles to empty" (can you believe i bought it, and took it home with the light on. the ignorant bass terds didnt fill it up) and i put 40.6 gallons in it. so i guess i got the 40 gallon tank, or a reallly special 38 gallon tank.

So, that's your secret! Well, with the gas prices the way they are maybe I will end up cutting the crew cab off, stripping out the 4x4 and taking two of the spark plugs out! Yep, that's the ticket!
And likewise, I've been thinking of cutting the frame and putting on a short bed. (Someone on this site has actually done just that reg cab short bed F250 looked pretty good!) Also, I could saw off 2 cylinders and have a 4.1L Triton V6. (Or a 3.4L V5 if it blows a plug.) those little 2.3L I4 Rangers are looking mighty good now, aren't they?
When my LOW FUEL light illuminates I can get 23-24 gallons (I have a 29 gal. tank) in pretty quickly...If I throttle the diesel pump slowly, I can get another 4-5 gallons in. That last 4-5 gallons it takes to 'TOP OFF' my truck is a very slow process and always has been since the truck was new...Not sure why? But anyhow, maybe that's a ? for a future thread. My truck is an XL Trim 'Plain Jane' and therefore no computer to rely on for a ball park figure on 'miles to go until empty' so I usually wheel into a station very soon after the light goes on...Bigfront
38 gal. tank here. When the light comes on, I have about 8 gallons left in it. I took it past E once and still had ~4 gallons left in the tank (was only able to put 34 gal. in it). At 8mpg, when it gets a bit below 1/4 tank, it's time to start looking for a station.
