about a month ago i installed "quick time" on to my computer and when i did this it changed all of the photos on my computer to "quick time" they where all "adobe photo shop" which is what i want. i uninstalled "quick time" but all the pictures are still the same. how do i switch them back to "photo shop". i guess what i am wanting is "photo shop" to be the default viewer for pictures.
the system is Win 95se
huh, check in My Computer, and look at the Control Panel. The settings you're looking for are probably in there. On xp I know there's a seperate setting for quicktime, which might be a place to start, but other than taht the best I can do for ya is to say putz around with those settings
Go into Adobe PS and not sure where it is, but there will be a preferences or options that will have something on what to associate with PS. Just go in there and check off those items you want to open with PS and you may have to reboot, not sure.
It sounds like the same thing that happens with Paint Slop Pro...
Can you still open or view the pictures?
yes, if i go into photo shop first then go to the file from photo shop. but if i go into where the file is and just click on it, it will not open anymore.
i have tired the other reccomendations, i canot find any type of "setup" or "options" in photo shop that will let me set it as a default, nor can i find anything in the control panel to set the default for photo viewing????
You should also be able to set the default opening program right from any of your files. Kind of what M1Garand said.
If you right click on a picture file (anyone will do) bring up the "properties" menu. You should see an option that says "open with" then it will have the current program selected and a "change" button at the end. Click on change this will bring up a list of avaiable programs to open the file. In your case select photoshop. Make sure the little box that says "always use this" is selected also. That should make them always open in PS first. Oh crap I just reread and noticed you have win95, I am not sure if it has the same menus but its something to try.
When you reinstall quicktime if it asks you to set it as default select no. I did the same thing when I installed my burner software "Nero" it set itself as default for everything.
W95...-Wasn't that the OS that never could??? Or was that Win-ME??? Must be an old machine. Upgrade to W98SE if you can find anyone with a CD for it. My son gave away our last disk a year or so ago. Sometimes I wish I still had a copy.
TQ1, I've got a couple of '95s and '98s, one of the 95's is 95B, which supposedly the best answer they came up with - but I only ever use it as a pre-launch for overlaying 98 (something I don't have to do anymore).
It sounds like the individual pictures need to be reformatted back to standard gifs, jpg's, and bmp's like they were to begin with.
It also sounds like "QUICK TIME" is one of the biggest oxymorons yet!
It gave you a 'Quicky' alright. It might just take some time to fix...
Try opening the pictures in whatever editor you have that works and doing a "SAVE AS" into jpg, or gif, and see if it helps. make SURE you save the picture into a new folder so you can find it, and not confuse it with the suspect picture.
torque1st I think you're thinking of windows Mellenium (win ME). Even programmers for windows say it's a donkey turd. My folks have it on thier computer and it has gone through three hard drives in as many years. A cheap operating system this is not.
W-95 was pretty bad. I removed it on one of my machines and several other persons and went back to W3.11. I have also removed W-ME and W-2000 very quickly on my machines. MS sent me a copy of W98SE to replace the W-ME I purchased years ago. IMO the only two OS that MS has made that worked fairly well were W3.11 and W-XP. W-98SE worked ~OK. Next up- LINUX! No more Windoze for me.
All this user has to do is remove QuickTime and change his file associations. QuickTime will make a mess out of your machine, -avoid it!
