Image/Photo Storage

Any member familiar with Photo storage and editing software I can purchase, I am not computer literate so the software would have to be fairly basic and not require a high learning curve to operate. Been using Photobucket but apparently they have changed their website format and now I am unable to upload images. Thought rather than look for another free online image storage site, where the my images would be part of the public domain, it would probly be best to purchase photo editing and storage software so I would have control of them?? Appreciate comments/suggestions.

You don't have to buy storage software.. Just save them to your hard drive..

As for editing you can use the free website PixLr to edit your photos and save them back to your computer..

Photo editor online / free image editing direct in your browser - Pixlr.com

On windows machines I use Irfanview exclusively - I like it so much I run a wine enabled version on my Macs. As for storage software - I just keep mine in folders. If you want a secure pay site, I use Smugmug.com that has copyright security and privacy. I have used if for a long time and have no complaints about it.

The irfanview software is about the easiest to use for photo editing, making it one of the best. IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide

Appreciate the information and intend checking them out. I am as computer literate as a stone. I do have numerous pic's on my hard drive but it's a matter of finding a forum/software by which I can upload these pic's and then post them on other sites or forums. Example, I can use the FTE browser to upload pic's from my computer then post them onto my photo gallery. Looking for a site with same/similar features where I can post to most sites, or forums?? I have been using 'photobucket' for a few years, which has worked fine for my needs but they apparently ended their contract with one of their program providers and thus their new format will not recognize my computer??? Again, appreciate the input!!

Take a look at this;
Picasa

It is a Google product that I use for my internet photo sharing.
I keep personal photos on my home system that consists of my desktop with two 1 terabyte external backup drives and in addition I burn copies of photos to CDs.

Currently checking out the 3 referrals and still not sure which, if any, allow for posting images to other websites/forums. The Google 'Picasa' was impressive in that it downloaded all my pic's and put them in separate folders and I immediately realized out of 600 plus pic's nearly half were copies, I may not learn how to post images from Picasa but I significantly increase storage space by deleting the duplicates. It will probly take a day or so for me to browse each of the sites to determine which is best suited for my level of experience. Again, thanks to all for the input!!

I haven't had any problems using p/bucket after the "upgrade" they did. I'm still using it the exact same way I have before, uploading from my hard drive.

What happens when you try?

I have used 'Photobucket' for a few years and it I really appreciated the 'user friendly' software and the ease with storing and sharing photo's and images. I emailed their 'Customer Support' and they responded with a series of procedures I was to go thru in an effort to correct the problem. After following their advice I still can not upload pic's/images from my computer. In the past, I was able to upload and with in a few seconds the image would appear in my Photobucket library; however, now when I attempt to upload the % bar remains at zero and the upload indicator continues to rotate indefinitely. I have responded to their email and hopefully they can further advise. Understand photobucket has discontinued a feature from one of their software providers and it apparently it has effected my computer???

Thank you!! Went back and followed the steps Photobucket support recommended in solving the problem and after about the 3rd time I come to realize one of the steps I failed to do was disable the compatibility View feature in the tool menu. Life is good, checked it out and now working fine and able to upload to Photobucket Library. Intend checking the other referrals want to be prepare should the problem surface again; so far, impressed with Google Pecasa and likely keep it for storing pics and images on my computer, the ability to manage and store pic's is just what I need; who knows may even learn how to share photos. Again, thanks to all for the referrals and input, greatly appreciated!!

For pics I use on FTE (which is most of them) I use the free albums we have here for as much truck stuff as I can. The FTE photo uploader is quick and easy, I have no idea what member vice non-supporter storage is.

But having my FTE stuff available on the same server makes it a lot nicer too.

From "USER CP", look on the left. Pictures and Albums will be an inch or so down the side menu, and if you have used P-bucket will seem real familiar

Picassa has the ability to link or to embed.
Working from the web albums;
A simple way to use it is to open a picture and then right click on it.
Select "copy image location"
then using "insert image here" function of your editor paste the URL

I also use FTE photo uploader and have several pic's in my gallery. Believe it was some time back that I experienced similar problem uploading to my FTE gallery about the time FTE upgraded their website. When I was unable to sort out the problem happened upon Photobucket and gave them a try; it was free, and as I mentioned, for one who does not have a clue, found Photobucket is about as basic and user friendly as it gets. I can store, manage, upload and link images and photos to just about any forum or site. I am not sure how but subsequently found I can uploaded pic's to my FTE gallery again????Almost feel I need to post a disclaimer than I do not, nor have I ever worked or affiliated with Photobucket.

After opening a pic and then right click, among a number of selections there are a couple that resemble menu's mentioned: 'copy full path', and 'locate on disk'; tried both but when I paste the path it does not link to the image. I tried it in this thread and when I click the 'review image' it comes up with the path but not the pic???

Imagine it will take me some time to figure it out; meantime, I will use Picasa to manage my images and photo's. Thank you for the info.

The FTE album and picture stuff goes through changes from time to time.

The last one got rid of "ATTACHMENTS" pretty much, but the album options are continually on the upgrade...

"GALLERIES" are also gone now I think - it is all albums now - 60 pics in each

I don't know if there even IS a limit on albums (How many we can have)
