I have a 01 ford f150 4.6 L 5 speed....and i can't locate the speed sensor....someone told me that it was on the rear so i looked and their is something on the top of the rear but i'm not positive it thats it or now.....when i took it out it didn't spin so i'm assuming if thats the sensor it's supposed to spin...
the sensor should be on the topside of the housing toward the driver side, the has a 2 wire connector that is going to it.held in place buty a 10 to 13 mm bolt
easy to replace, cost about 30.00 at dealer. just had mine done. problem is if the ABS light comes on you have to take it to the dealer to turn off the light. .
Today i put the speed sensor in my truck and it still doesn't work.....speedo still doesn't register and the check engin light is still on....are their any other possibilities that i could check.....should i take battery off for the night to reset the computer??
ok I am in left field, I thought you were talking about the ABS rear sensor LOL. any way what code are you getting from the check engine light? Did you check the fuses?
i was told that the rear sensor was the speed / ABS sensor.....the code is for the speed sensor....050 or something like that....may be the wrong number but it was for the speed sensor
The speed sensor you are talking about is on the back of the transmission, the speed sensor I am talking about is for the ABS, when the brakes lock up it detects it and keeps the brakes from locking up. the speed sensor for the speedo is on the transmsiion. I beleive it is electrical. not cable mounted. of course this is my understanding of the system. My speedo sensor is on the tranny, (2000 F150 4x4). I of course could be in left field again but I will check my shop manual when I get home.
I do know that if your ABS light did not come on then the sensor on the diff was not the problem if it was bad then ithe abs light would come on.
the manual shows the sesor is on the back of the transfer if you have a 4x4. it shold be in around the same location on the transmission on the 2x4. If you buy the sensor then of under and find the equivalant on the transfer or tranny. disconnect, remove and install. reset cpu or clear all faults.
