Factory DVD Installation

I am looking to install a factory rear entertainment center with DVD in a 2004 Excursion Limited with rear controls and factory 6-cd radio. This truck did not originally come with it.

Does anyone have the OEM part numbers for the wiring harness needed and mounting bracket ?

I am also looking for installation instructions including how to remove the headliner to install the bracket and where the additional wiring is to be run and hooked up to complete the system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Mike

I put one in my 2001 Ex. Its time consuming but the end result is worth it. The bracket p/n is 2C7Z 78519K22 AA. I got mine online and saved some money. Some people say they've installed it without but I wouldn't recommend it. It was worth the price.

As for the harness, I did extensive research and there doesn't seem to be a separate factory DVD harness out there. My DVD unit came from a salvaged 2004. When they took the DVD unit out they cut the wires that plugged into the dvd unit. What I found that works perfect is a Ford cd changer harness, the long version. It uses all the same wire colors, but it has a different end than what plugs into the dvd unit. I had that end so I cut off the end off the harness that plugs into a cd changer and put the 'pigtail' that was in my salvaged dvd unit on the harness. Works perfect. If you don't have the plug, you'll have to find a stereo or electronics store that can help. The p/n for the harness is XU3F-14588-DA. Pull your stereo out and unplug the two plugs in the back. Plug the cd changer harness in and the plug the original truck harness into the cd changer harness. Route the wires to the passenger side behind the glove box. Pull the kick pannel, door sill and trim between front and rear passenger door and run it up to the roof.

As for the headliner, you really need two people, to move it back far enough to put in the new bracket. Pull the rear a/c controls down and unplug. The over head console has some screws hidden in the sunglass and garage door opener compartments, then just pull it down and unplug it and put it aside. Pull the sun visors off, unbolt the grab handles, pull out the i think six round plastic retainers, and all the trim that goes up around the edge of the vehicle that supports the edges of the headliner. You'll need a t-50 torx bit to remove the top seat belt anchors to get some of the trim pieces off. The headliner should be loose just make sure it is disconncted from the a/c duct, it just pulls out, that is on the passenger side behind the rear door, if I remember right. Slide it out the rear of the excursion enough that the overhead console bracket is exposed.

Take the old bracket out. Its held in with screws. When you take it out, you'll notice that the screws went into white plastic oval shaped screw retainers that are installed in slots in the metal roof supports. You need more of these for the new bracket, along with some more small screws. Go to the Ford body shop, take an original with, and get some more. Hold the new bracket up and you'll see where to push them into the slots in the ceiling. Put the new bracket in, run the harness up there the rest of the way and put the headliner back in, with all trim. The only cutting of the headliner you have to do is feel though the headliner for the square shaped bulges. This is where the DVD unit metal clips snap in. Take a sharp utility knife and cut around the outside of these bulges. The headliner needs to fit around these so it fits tighter to the roof. If I remember right there are six. Then put everthing in and plug it in and you should be good to go. My factory rear a/c control harness was about 6" short since the controls are now off to the side. I didn't hook them up since I never used them anyway. All I need to do is splice in some longer wires if I want it to work later. Sorry the post was long. Hope it helps. Let me know if I can answer anything I might have missed.
