This really ticks me off, fords making a big mistake IMO. I love my truck and im happy i got the last of the breed. A 2005 4x4 PSD limited, loaded dvd, dual back seats, the whole 9 yards...., couldnt have asked for anything better than my EX..Nothin beats it, not no 3/4 ton suburban, escalade, GMC YUKON XL...NOTHING..!
But its sad to see such a awesome truck die out in a couple yrs, people tarnish the Excursions name because they know it as a big "gas hog", but their wrong, im pulling 18 MPG highway with the 60L PSD,all it takes is one test run and i GUARANTEE the person will be addicted to its awesome power for its size, and its nice looks!... i couldnt be any happier with my 05 X.
Unfortunately, its just a few days until they close the Plant for Excursions..
I'd like to think of it in a good way...our X's will hold their value higher, and they will never be Re-modeled again. But too bad 4..5 years down the road, i wont be looking at another excursion, ill be looking at a Suburban DURAMAX
I agree. I have always had good luck with Fords. We just bought our first diesel, a 05 Excursion 4x4 Eddie Baurer 6.0L PSD. This thing is absolutely awesome. There is nothing that will haul our three kids, three dogs, and trailer better! The only thing I wish Ford would have kept when we bought ours is the manual transmission offered on early models.
With the Excursion gone, there will no longer be a diesel option available from any maker.
Diesel is cheaper where I live and I have one of the most fuel efficient SUVs at work. I actually pay less for fuel than they do! All this and 2-3 times heavier!
While I think regulars at this forum have known about the demise of the Ex for almost a year...I too am sad to see it gone. I love my '05 XLT (had to have the chrome) and it being the last year is kind of cool too.
I'll have mine for a long time, like my previous Bronco. I don;t drive it everyday, so it won;t rack up tons of miles. I'm not even thinking about what vehicle will replace it.
Be glad Ford build them as long as they did. While the mileage is no worse than one of those awfull H-Tahoe-2s...the enviro wackos went after the Ex in a big way. I love it that Ford thumbed their nose at them and kept building the lovable giant.
I also secretly giggle when I pull up to a light behind a Prius....I'm just making sure it all evens out.
I wouldn't worry to much about it. From what I understand, the new version of the Excursion will be called the Expedition Plus or Expedition II (something similiar to what Chevy did with the Tahoe).

Not me!...I plan on havin' the '05 for 20years! I'm sure I'll be sifting over spare parts in the junk yards for the latter part of it's life, but, at least that's the plan.
We love our Excursion and are sad to see it go. Heck name an 8000# 4x4 that can get 19 mpg on the highway @75? I love reading Car and Drivers test results from those "fuel efficent" Subarus, Kia SUV's that get less MPG from a smaller rig. My cousin has a Honda Passport V-6 and he's pretty sick that he gets 16 on the highway. We'll keep ours until the kids are in college...at least 7-8 more years
I was always under the impression that it was the 2004s that were to be the last year - at least they rolled out some 2005s - they look GOOD!
For those with deep pockets that still want an excursion after Ford stops making them I would bet if you take a F250 or F350 to a limo shop they could build you an excursion for a price. (Probably load it out with some expensive goodies, too!)
Kinda like the 4 door Ford Bronco I remember seeing in the early 90s - to my knowledge Ford never produced a 4 door Bronco, but I'd seen one around town many, many times.
