I have been planning a tranny swap from my np435 to a c6 for most of the summer, collecting and installing parts that I can for now. Well, my clutch assembly finally fell apart on Thursday, so the project has moved up on the to do list.
I have found a couple of C6 trannys that seem re-buildable, but different years have different tailshafts / tailshaft housings. Any thoughts on which would be better in the '68 Highboy?
I found a '73 F100 and a '69 F??? in the junkyard over the weekend. The '73 F100 has a longer tailshaft / housing, and the '69 has a much shorter tailshaft / housing.
Any thought are appreciated.
Thanks.

Yeah, the t-case is divorced. I've got my choice of trannys to choose from, so I may as well pick up a short tailshaft tranny to begin with, if that's what I should have...

fastbigblockford...
I have NEVER seen a '67-'77 F250 4x4 in ANY junkyards in or around Denver. (I've seen a couple that might belong in the junkyard, but...)

do you know anyone else in your area that runs those trucks?? i have NEVER seen a highboy in the JY either, and thank goodness for that! look around for someone that runs those trucks, heck just take a drive in the country(not sure if you live in the country or city so just an example) and look for a highboy sittin in someone's backyard/field/barn. alot of those trucks ended up farm trucks and such, so just keep an eye open...and fwiw, most of the automatic highboys i have seen were fulltime 4wd(look for one with flanged front axles and a 203 case)
hope this helps
later

The highboys used the same tailshaft as the fixed yoke long bed pickup, as far as I know. Just get one and the driveshaft from a 4x4, then you know you have the right combo for yours.
