ok i have a 54 f100 deluxe cab, who makes the best repro crome? I have priced geting it recromed and buying repro was cheeper. any one have a suggestion on a company or are they all made by the some one? thanks
Not sure what you mean here? I'm gonna take a stab at it. I think your asking for a chrome shop that will chrome parts cheaper than purchasing them as a reproduction part. Chrome use to be cheap, but with all the Air regulations and OSHA restrictions, chromers have a high overhead to chrome parts, thus charging more. All chrome shops are about the same. Reproduction parts are much cheaper than taking the part in and having it chromed. Chrome shops are handy when you have items that are not available as a reproduction item, but you'd like to have it chrome. In CA, I use Astro Plating in Van Nuys, CA. They do a pretty good job. Nothing's cheap anymore. LOL..
Grille and hood badges are available from a few places, but I think Dennis Carpenter makes most of them. The only place I know of that has the hood side emblems is Dennis Carpenter. That kind of narrows down your choices a bit.
Seems like DC has more emblem items this week than they did a few weeks ago. They must be expanding their offerings in this area - good news.
For the bumpers, I would suggest paying a little more and getting SS. Most of the repro chrome will come from Dennis Carpenter, so order your parts and SS from him. Cutout the middle man! Jag
I don't use Dennis Carpenter, just because of personal choice. I've gotten several items from Sacramento Vintage and Blue Oval truck parts (our sponsor), and the quality has been very good. They are all pretty much the same when it comes to chrome parts. Prices will vary. Shop around.
