Saw the sugar trick on Mythbusters, along with other additives.
They used an old gasser out of a Cadillac, poured everything into it.
Nothing stopped it, until they drained the oil....
They even thought it ran better with the sugar.
They didn't try diesel though.....
Burnt sugar is nothing but a lot of carbon. That will deposit on top of the pistons, form carbon ridges on the cylinder walls at TDC thus increasing the compression ratio. Because of the compression ratio increase you will need higher octane gas resulting in more hp.
I know sugar is water soluable. If it does dissolve a little in gas, this could take a while to happen. I can see it clogging up the fuel filter first.
Want to ruin an engine? Dump 2 lbs of sugar down the intake, or in the crankcase Or plain ol' WATER! Will displace the gas, get pumped through the fuel system, might not ruin the engine, but will cost a pretty penny to have a shop clean it all up and repair anything
I have also been told that a tampon works wonders on gas tanks that pull from the bottom. Gets in there and expands to cover the hole, but moves around when the vehicle is rocked, so it gives an intermittent problem.
i could belive the sugar making the snowmobiles cook a motor but on the fact that most snowmobiles are 2 strokes. the sugar clogged the fuel system making it run lean. what happens to a lean runnin 2 stroke???? holes burn in pistons......
Stang, there are about 958 billion threads covering that topic in all forums on this site. You'll read that it does, that it doesn't, that its good and bad, it only works if the moon is inline with Jupiter, snake oil, etc. . . .Ok, maybe not that many, but a quick search in any forum should net you more "fact" and quackery than you'd ever wanted to know
Back to the topic on hand. Alchymist, so, if sugar does dissolve in 2 stroke oil, maybe make a sugar/oil solution then pour that into a gas tank? Think the oil will hold it in suspension?
Don't know - all I know is that the gas/oil mix for the 2 cycle engines will carry enough sugar to the inner parts to cause damage. I think it may cause excess friction on the cyl walls or some such .........2 cycle engines depend on the oil in the gas mix to lubricate rings/valves, etc.
