Jharger, yes I am a woman( Thanks for asking), what? Do you think women can't like cars? And I didn't ask about James, I asked "Can you (or I ) use the ECM from an automatic ( 1993 ) in a manual 1993 explorer?"
I just got a manual 93 explorer and it needs a ecm, which I have, out of an automatic explorer.

Sweet! I love women into cars. I had a 17 year old red head girlfirend, Italian no less, who had a 1969 super cobra jet m fastback mustang. Was that a wild ride!

So there were some changes that happen in 1993/1994 on the Explorer PCM's. Mine got caught and there was an update for cold start stalling issues. So I guess I have 2 PCM codes that will actully run my truck. I can send you the TSB with all the codes in it. Just PM me your email - no that's not a pick up line. My wife monitors my posts.

But in 1993, that was a transition year on emissions. California models all had SFI - sequential fuel injection (one cylinder gets gas ata a time) and they had EGR's. Fed cars had MFI - Mulitple port fuel injection (all 3 on a side got gas all the once) and no EGR. This is why the PCM 4 digit codes are so important.

There are a lot out there on eBay. match you 4 digit code and you are good to go.

But then again...why do you need a new 'puter? These don't go bad unless you use your 357 on it. Do you want to start a Q/A on you issues?

What about a FORD C4? I have read of that transmission being used. I had been asking around for a while now trying to find out what other transmission would go Into my 94 Explorer without any major mods bolt up If possible because I don't want to go through this again and I have read so many bad things about the A4LD thats why I was thinking of doing a swap. I have a front seal leak bad after It warms up and 2nd slips and 3rd slips bad so I have to do something soon. What would be the best transmission to put In my Explorer?
I found a high proformance FORD C4 on eBay for $300 but I have to be sure about what transmission will fit Into this truck.

It's a completely different bellhousing. Wont fit up to the engine. If you want to out a 302 in it, then maybe you have something.

You should run a post in the transmission forum and ask what else will fit. I think you'll get A4LD, M5OD and Z1. Last 2 are manuals.

James, if my tranny goes, I think I would swap in a 302 (5.0L) and an automatic 4x4, out of a late model wrecked F100 or something. i just bought a 1993 Explorer xtl 4.0L 5 speed manual transmission off a guy on ebay, to fix up and sell. Maybe you can find one like that, which you could use as a donor to swap in the entire drive train, ecm or pcm, etc.

That's the same model /yr I have Laura. Mines Ca though, not fed. If you run into any issues, EFI controls, ball joints, fron diff removal...let me know. I've just gotten done with all that stuff and had to learn a lot.

James, transmissions these days incorporate the bellhousing as part of the entire transmission casing. So there is no swaping. There might be adapter plates available, not sure about this application though. A company called atlas engineering makes some. Look them up.

Jharger, I have a 1994 XTL Explorer automatic, as my daily driver which has a lack of power problem and I just got this 1993 XTL Explorer 5 speed Manual, which needed a whole lot of body and interior parts ( swapped the parts from my 1991 EB Explorer ). I got it all back together except for gear shift **** and the right ecm. I'm using an ECM out of a 91 automatic explorer til I get one for this manual explorer.

I know I have asked this question before and I don't want to start a new thread for this, so can I get some help? Other than my transmission problems, I have a knock that I can not track down. It happens for maybe the first 20 minutes from start up and It Is off and on. It sounds like one of the values Is knocking. It will start off low and then get louder and then stop and It will start up again maybe 45 seconds later. What could be causing this knock? I tried a better grade gas and that helped for about a day.

OK, got another question and I am still hoping someone will help me out with my last question.. What I want to know Is what other year and make vehicle has the Identical transmission as the 94 Explorer? I am trying to find a Used Transmission here In Dayton and when I ask for a 94 Explorer Transmission they always say they don't have one and I know It was put In more than the 94 Explorer. So I just need to know what other vehicles I can ask for that will be a match for my truck from a transmission stand point.

I would try the Mazda Navajo, the Ford Ranger the Mercury Mountaineer, or basical anything in those years that had 4x4 and a Ford 4.0 Liter automatic.
