About a year ago my '98 B3000 (3.0L for those who don't understand the B series designations) starting pinging, gradually getting worse. About 2-3 months after that the truck left me sit. Turns out it was the MAF Sensor. Had it replaced (not cheap) and when I got it back the pinging was gone-totally!! Now it's beginning to ping again (about 9 months). Is it worth pulling the sensor and cleaning it or was it just a coincidence that the pinging stopped when the MAF was replaced?? Could a buildup on the sensor wires cause this kind of condition?? Thanks for any info or help. Except for this one thing, I really like this truck!!
You need to find out WHY the MAF is getting dirty!!!!
Look for a damaged or ill fitting air filter, air box or air tube not buttoned up properly. Also read recently of Purolator air filters not fitting properly, so it might be suspect, if you use them & have changed it lately. Also if you use a oiled cotton gause air filter & have over oiled it, that can contaminate the MAF grid.

Thanks for the info, Rockedge. I'll stop at the auto parts store tomorrow for a security torx screw driver (I have a regular T20 Torx, but not the one needed for the post in the screw head) and a can of O2 safe spray cleaner and give it a shot.
And thanks, too, Pawpaw for your advice. It does make sense that something's fouling it. I'll check the list you gave.
