How many splines?
Is there any way to tell if my 9" is 28 or 31 spline without taking it apart? Any kind of code or marking somewhere on the casing? It's under a '78 F100, but it's not the original rear end, and I'm not sure what type of vehicle it came from.

Write down what it says on the tag and post it. And we will try to help you.
But more than likely it is 31 spline, earlier 70's had some 28 ones.
