I currently had to use my 4x4 the other day and tried to shift it into the low side but it won't go. I slide the lever to the left as far as I can and it still will not go.
I haven't used my 4 Low in a long time so I never noticed any symptons of it acting up. Last time I used it I'm pretty sure it went in with no problem. I had the clutch replaced a month or two ago, would this have any effect on it no shifting?
I'm going under mine this weekend to find out why I can't 4X4 low... 2H and 4H are no problem.. I'm beginning to suspect a shifter problem... Will post more if I learn anything...
Depending on your type of transfer case.. You don't say year and model of 4X4 you have but in my case I have a 2000 E350 van 4X4 with a floor shift 1356 transfer case and it does have an external shift linkage...
with your truck having a shifter it does have a linkage. with you having to slide the shifter to the left to shift I take it you have a 80+ model truck?
try coming to a complete stop and take the truck out of gear, then shift into 4lo or turn the truck off. If it still won't go into 4lo try adjusting the linkage on the case. since it'd had to be disconnected when the clutch was replaced.
I found the problem with my shifter.... But it may not help you... It appears that the Shifter boot was installed wrong not allowing the Shifter handle to move all the way back.... I'm not sure how it happened but once it was moved back to were it belonged I now have 2Hi, 4Hi and 4Lo... Go figure...
