Lightbulb 4.0 swap vs 2.9 hotrod

I want some input on this subject. In the search for V6 power i cant decide weather to swap in a 4.0 or hot rod the 2.9 in my Bronco2.I know the pushrod 4.0 makes about 160 hp and around 200 lbft.i have heard of 200 hp 2.9s as well but no tourque figures. If anyone has experience with either scenario i want to hear your story.I'm concerned that the 2.9 will be pricey to soup up and I find performance parts to be a beyotch to get.On the other hand, dragging a whole Exploder home to scrape up all the stuff i need and pissing the folks off with another heap in the driveway seems like a hassle too.I dont really want to hack my wiring up splicing the 4.0 nervous system in.But on the plus side, there seems to be some Horsepower hiding in the 4.0

What have you done to your 2.9 so far? I would get as much as I could out of that first. If on a budget, start with cold air intake system with a K&N filter. Then move on to the exhaust with a cat back exhaust system with free flow muffler. Should be plenty of power with those mods.
