Speedo pinions

I have a 1997 explorer sport 4.0 v6 wat and went from p25570r16 tire/wheel combo and now have p23575r15lt wheel/tires.....is the speedo electronic? do I need to replace pinion to assure I am reading right?...I have had this problem prior with another vehicle.....if you know the color/tooth # or a ford p/n Great! Don't know about your '97, but my 2002 requires a PCM program change to fix that...

You need a computer flash. However you go about it is up to you.

Anything after the 94 models doesn't have speedo cables or gears to deal with.

Ok, thanks for the input...I was not sure about that ...my 1990 f series I needed to replace pinions.....I am looking into the laptop based obd II scanners...do those offer the option to do that? thanks,again...mike
