idler pulley - '04
My 2004 V8 has started to squeak after start-up and continues until it has been driven for several miles. This especially happens when it is cold and/or damp. Could this possibly the idler pulley? If so, I am rather surprised it would need to be replaced so soon.

Fords are bad about having sqeaky idler pullies. The problem is they have little or no grease in them. Being an 04 you could take it back for warranty replacement or you can fix it yourself.
You can remove the pullie,pull the grease seal off the back, and grease it with wheel bearing grease. I know a lot of F150 owners that have done just that.

This is an old topic but I have to comment on it. My 04 is just cresting 45,000 and when it was under warrenty I had the dealer look at it a couple of time because I had a constant tick coming from the idler pully. Now when its cold out it sounds like the damn thing is going to come apart. It quites down when it warms up but never the less I can tell i'll be replacing it in the near future, I would really like to know if anyone else is having this problem. Thanks

mine still squeaks when its cold. It was fine during the summer and as soon as the weather turned cold and damp, it started squeaking again. I haven't had a chance to bring it in though. It sounds awful though until its warmed up.
