I need some advice

I have a 1987 f250 6.9
I installed a rebuilt injector pump....the problem I'm having is there is no fuel comming out the lines, I have fuel going into the pump and fuel comming out the top of the pump(I guess the bypass) and nothing comming out the steel injector lines.
the wires are hooked up to the top of the pump and I do hear it click(and feel it) when the key is turned on. The lift pump is flowing good and plenty of pressure. The truck ran great at idle before I took the old one out.

my questions are should I tighten all injector lines but one or should they all be loose to bleed the system?

Is there a way I could prime the pump and the lines before I install it to save on the starter and batterys.

Or is it a faulty pump?
Thanks,
Jim

Is there an electric fuel cutoff solinoid on these to stop the engine when you cut the power?

are you sure you hear the injection pump turning off and on with the key or are you hearing the glow plug relay working? make sure the ignition fuse is ok. the injection pump has the off/on switch internally on the top part of the pump where the wires hook up to it. that has been known to go bad. OR the pump drive is broken and i have seen that too. and that would show up as no fuel flow to the cylinders. To remove the injection pump:
loosen all steel lines at injectors - remove 3 5/16 12 pt bolts inside the little front cover on oil fill - remove 3 9/16 nuts holding injection pump to tower and take the whole thing out (looks like a butterfly). that way you wont mess up the timing of the pump and it will go back together , in time.

I can hear the glow plugs cycle, and if I take the wire off the top of the pump I can hear it click, and with my hand on the pump I can feel it.

I spoke to the people that I bought the pump from and I am going to try a few things they said, If it works out I will post the info to try to help someone eles if this happens to them.

worst case if it dosent work they said send it back, and they will ship another.

up and running

Well it seems that I had a couple of things against me last night and all is fixed now.
when I was priming the fuel system the batteries went a little lower than I thought(it was cranking but not as fast and crisp) so I charged them up and with it cranking over I sprayed wd40 into the intate, got it running and the fuel started to come out the lines, tightened the lines and made an idle adjustment. It runs like it did 150,000 miles ago what a big differance.

i have a 1985 6.9, been playing around with the air/fuel mixture screw.
my pump seems questionable to me as it has a stripped inspection plate screw indicating previous owner was also in an out alot. question is, with this mixture screw, where is a starting point ? i went clockwise until i had the smoke down. when i went counterclockwise to get back some of the power back and it dropped ALOT of power. SO i went back to lean and its power is so,so. my first diesel, i dont have the complete knowledge or equipt to do all the testing i read about, when you changed this pump, wasnt timing or air/fuel adjustments a problem ?
i am starting to believe the smoke i have coming out is really oil passing by the rings. its blueish and constant. i plan on doing a compression test and will change the oil more often because i believe oil quality could be a factor.
i'd still like to get to know the injector pump and tune it closer to perfect.
i also want to adjust for more top speed too so any clues as to where and what the govenor is and does would be good reading for me. thx, still looking at your gallories.

That screw u were messing with isnt an air/fuel mixture u need to do a search on fuel adjustment that adjust the amount of fuel your pump puts out that is what the screw does. U should never touch it without a pyrometer. because if u turn it up just a little too much u will melt your pistons. The injector pump is very delicate inside u shouldnt mess with the governor unless u are a trained diesel mechanic unless u plan on buying a new ip. If u are having blue smoke all the time u may want to advance the timing a little. Small adjustments until no blue smoke is visible.

I have done lots of reading and I came across this web page that may help you as it did for me in trying to understand how things work.
since we live close we can compare engines side by side and swap ideas too.
