I just received the third notice to take my truck to the dealer. So far it has been in for the transmission fix, and wireharness recall. Now I have received the EGR, EBP computer or what ever it is notice. I can not believe this, $40K+ for a truck and 3 bring back notices. I bought this truck with the intention of keeping it for 10 years minimum. I do not think it will make it to the factory warranty end. If it does it will start to drain my wallet due to issues that will not be covered because I am out of warranty and the dealers will see an easy target to fatten their wallet. I love the truck but at 1 year old and 10500 (I ride my motorcycle trough the summer, especially with the fuel cost) on the clock three notices to bring it back ( not including the EGR valve that almost left me standed) is too much to take. I think this is rediculous 3 notices in a year of ownership come on! I guess it goes back to I bought a truck that stickered over $40K and I expect a vehicle worthy of the price tag. This is supposed to be Ford's "Toughest truck". Ford's engineering department really fell down on this one. I do not feel this truck meets any of their standards. Ford has all these ridiculous criteria you must meet. I know because I work for a supplier. If these components were tested to their full extent they should not fail. ( Or was it PPAP time and we needed to meet production??????????)Why didn't they keep the 7.3 that thing was bullet proof, and got way better mileage. My father in law has 30K on his 7.3 and gets 18-20 in the city and 23 on the highway, I am luck if I get 15 in the city, more like 13.5 or 14.
I bought a new vehicle so I would not have to keep working on it myself or taking it in for issues. I am thinking I should have kept my Jeep and fiddled with it when necessary. At least it was paid for and I was not paying for something sitting at the dealer to be fixed.
These concerns are on my mind also, but I don't think the other manufacturers have a better handle on their problems. Ford also happens to be the better truck regardless. If your like me, and don't use your truck for work, or towing, maybe it's wiser to err on the side of caution. I'm thinking Mazda Miata MX-5
I second the frustation, 1 year and 4 months, i've lost count as to how many times the truck as been in for warranty work, now at 34k, closing in on 36k factory warranty and then just power train warranty, that means everytime it goes in for warranty work i'll have to pay $100 deductible.
It's scheduled to go back in on sep. 19 for head gasket and egr cooler replacement.
I love this truck I just don't enjoy or trust it anymore.
I just want to make it perfectly clear, I'm as big a Ford fan as they come, but I don't believe in blind faith. If I had no other choice but to buy a diesel, it would be a Ford, but given the choice (not needing a diesel), it might be wise not to hold onto these trucks after the warranty is up.
but I don't think the other manufacturers have a better handle on their problems.
If you believe that your prolly just fooling yourself GM and Dodge have not had near the problems with their motors and drivetrains. Theres been some issues of course and I'll agree the truck itself is more then likely the best in class. The motor has been plagued with 'notoriuos' issues, reflashes, recalls, updates etc. since the get-go. Hopefully they'll get it right with the new motor...
I find it amazing that Ford takes terrible heat for not fixing or addressing an issue. Then as soon as they release a fix...people bitch because they have to take their truck into the shop.
Don't do it. No one is putting a gun to your head. Keep driving your $ 40,000 truck and you probably will never have the problem anyway. But, don't complain when and if you do wind up stuck on the side of the road...watching DMAX-HD and his Duramax buddies wave when they drive by in their perfect trucks.
IMO, to the general Ford 6.0 population this is a pre-emptive and preventative recall. This is not a "your truck will rot in hell if you don't do it" recall.
Maybe you shoulda bought a $ 39,000 Tundra...oh yeah...not good...they just had a recall as well...oops...no not Chevy either they just had a recall. And what about Dodge? Na...ain't gonna go there.
my buddy has an 04 psd. i believe it has around 24,000 miles on it. it has been back to the dealer at least 8 times. from tranny problems to reflashes to hard starting,to oil leaking, etc. my 04 dodge ctd has 30,000 miles on it. it has been to the dealer once for a tsb on the driver side door weatherstripping. it runs and drives like the day i drove it off the dealers lot.-and yes- it will still be running at 200,000 miles and no, the body is not going to fall off around the motor. it kills me to see people say that dodges have had the same amount of trouble with their trucks as ford and chevy's. i am not starting a war. i respect people for their "truck" choices. but, i spend most time time on the dodge forums and i have yet to read or hear of any new cummins truck that has left their owner stranded on the side of the road. i have read quite of few posts on this site as well on the duramax site of this very problem. it seems when a ford owner or a chevy owner voices their disgust of the lack of reliablity, etc of their truck-there is always somebody saying dodge has the same problems! sure, dodge has had some issues/problems-but not to the extend of ford or chevy! ford makes a good truck- but dodge does too- it may not be as "refined" as the ford-but i have confidence in my truck when i am driving down the road!
so, lets see how long it takes for me to get flamed about the dodge tranny(there has not been any issues with the 48re)
and how the body will fall apart after said number of miles
But, don't complain when and if you do wind up stuck on the side of the road...watching DMAX-HD and his Duramax buddies wave when they drive by in their perfect trucks.
Can't speak for my 'buddies' put I'd prolly pull over to offer a hand.
I know 8 6.0 psd owners and none of them are havine problems. I have talked with dozens of owner that I meet at gas stations with no problem. Some of these people have 150,000 + miles on them and still love the truck. My truck has 35,000 miles and is going to the dealer for the first time Monday for a bumper that is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch off set (sound picky but one side sticks out and get hit by gravel and chips), and the AC will go to deforst when I drive slow around the deer lease. I think we forget that there is a hugh number of 6.0 owners who have never been on this sight and have no idea that other 6.0 owners has had problems. My long winded point to say that ALL 6.0's are junk and will leave you straned is just as false if I was to say that NO 6.0's have had any problems.
For you Gentlemen who are having frustrations over your trucks, your opinions are valid but I may be able to make you feel a little better. Please excuse the inconvenience, the improvements are permanent. Setting aside the fact that you have to go back to the dealer to correct product concerns in the first place, doing so should reduce or eliminate the likelihood that you will have to in the future and under much more undesirable circumstances. If you want to experience real frustration try having your engine abruptly shut down on the highway at 65MPH or your transmission lock-up while on vacation towing a 5th!
The recalls and programs on the 2004/2005 6.0L trucks will correct some existing problems and eliminate others from happening. Ford is doing this voluntarily (with a little pressure ) which should tell you that they stand behind their product. If your transmission hasn't failed, your engine has not stalled and not restarted, be thankful. Taking the time to bring your truck in, hopefully at your convenience, will prove to be the wise choice in the long run. All of my customers seem to be quite happy with their trucks after having the recalls performed. Those running the new calibrations also seem to be pleased... at least I have not gotten any negative feedback.
The only people that I hear having trouble with their 06 super duty are on this site.I talk to every super duty owner that I meet I have yet to meet an unhappy owner or one having any problems. I do go out of my way talk to them .I do not believe in any of these engine mods they are not needed,I don`t hot rod my truck but I do tow a heavy trailer and have never had any trouble going up a long steep mountain grade,my truck dose not over heat and I run the air conditioner all the time.

If you own a Chevy, or Dodge why would you post on this thread. Are you adding something from experience? I surely have better things to do, than go to on a Chevy or Dodge forum and add my UNINFORMED OPINION. I think maybe you should play in your own backyard.
In my very humble opinion, anyone who makes a $40,000+ purchase and doesn't do any research before hand, doesn't have much to complain about. I still bought a 6.0 F250 after doing my research.
I have had it for 11 months and it has been in the shop three times. I love my truck and the Dealer's service department. I couldn't be more satisfied with both.
What sort of parts do you supply to the OEM's. I have worked as an automotive engineer (Tier1 and Tier 2) for 11 years. It is no suprise to me that a product could be released and then have problems afterwards. At least Ford is fixing it as opposed to trying to hide it.
