Replacing motor mounts advice

Hi,

I'm replacing the motor mounts on my 1995 ford f150 w/ the 302. I just finished replacing the passenger side, and I took off the bracket that bolts to the frame to get to the mount---

on the driver side it looks like there's several rivets holding the bracket to the frame (thus I can't get it off) ---- how do you get to the mount itself to slip it off around the bracket, and then put in the new one? Just jack up the engine higher? if so, do i have to have both mounts loose to do that?

Thanks all for your advice!

...Nathan

it is riveted on.

it looks like one bolt at bottom needs to come off.

i have a 4.9 and am looking in a manual for you. i would only try to jack up one side and see if it comes out. if it does not i may loosen but not take out bolts on pass. side.

hope this helps.

i just replaced the drivers side on my 5.8 and to do it i just took off the both bolts from the main stud on the motor mounts (both sides, total of two nuts) and then with a jack and a 4x4 jacked up under the oil pan until the stud cleared the hole on the drivers side then i unbolted the two bolts that hold the motor mount to the engine and slipped in the new one, then bolted in the new one and slowly let the jack down and tightened the nuts to the studs, i bought mine at o'reillys and i had to modify the hole farthest from the front with a metal file, but it fit all right, hope this helps you some

Thanks for the advice guys. Finished yesterday.

Ok, you don't have to remove the bracket on either side. I removed the bracked and replaced the passenger side first, then did the drivers side another day.

If I was gonna do this again, I would just remove both nuts that secure the motor mount to the frame bracket... jack it up a few inches (open the hood first) ---- and take both mounts off first and slip 'em out.

Nuts were pretty tight---had to remove oil filter to get enough bite on the driver side.

The truck drives SOO much better---no more squeaking, clunking, or clicking sounds from the raditator fan hitting the stroud when i turned hard left, right, or hit a bump ..... SHould of done it earlier!

THanks again. Next job: radius arm bushing.

great! when you wrote your first post, i wondered why you had to remove the bracket.

i just did my passenger side radius arm bushing. check to see if they are riveted or bolted on. when you get ready to do them p.m. me and i will try to help you.
