Does anyone know where to get the windshield rubber/seal for an '84 F150? So far the places I've asked just tell me to have someone install it for me. Or have I just been asking the wrong places/people ? Thanks,
Edwin
You should look at Blue Oval Truck Parts. http://blueovaltruckparts.com/catalo...?cPath=242_248
They should have what you are looking for. They have lots of different parts as well as being the sponsor for this forum. The link should take you to the right page I hope.
The reason they tell you that is because the sealer is not a ready gasket, but a gasket in a tube generally. Unless you have a way to cut out the windsheild and clean it up, you will be struggling to get it out. Most glass shops that do it professionally have a heated knife that is more effective on cutting the seal than anything else. I would be working at it pretty hard for way longer than they can have it out, cleaned, and reinstalled. I need to do the same for mine, but just haven't had the extra $50 to get it done, and since it has been a drought this year, it just has been put off, but I really nered to get it done, tired of the wet floor from about every rain...
A word to the wise. A glued in windshield, like our trucks have requires levelling the vehicle. IF you want to do it right, you'll have the frame checked first, and straightened, and then have the vehicle put on a level floor, checked for level, and then have the glass installed. Otherwise it will always leak.
Experience there, working part time for a glass shop, BIL manages a body shop that does such install's, etc. I would not waste time trying this in my back yard. I've seen to many who have, and end up needing the job done a second or third time.
So, there isn't an actuall rubber seal for the windshield? Interesting. I guess I'm not all that worried about leaking, I (& previous owners) have put enough holes in this thing that I guess it doesn't matter. I just want a windshield that isn't cracked, scratched, chipped... you get the idea.
