Bought a used EB 03' Expy a few weeks ago with 23000 miles on it. Last couple of days I have noticed that when I run my air (hot and cold) there is a small squeak in the background. This squeak doesn't exist when the fan is off. The squeak happens every 10-15 seconds. It is not horrible as I usually listen to music and cannot hear it, but if I have it off it get terribly annoying.
Anyone else have this problem? Any remedies? Covered in Manufacturer Warranty? I believe it is probably the fan, but who knows.
Is it a short high-pitched squeak? It probably is your A/C clutch cycling on. With the proper freon levels it shouldn't cycle as often. If the system needs a charge already, the manufacturer warranty should fix the leak and recharge.
However, I just recharged my A/C system and it still cycles (noted by the short squeak) every 10-15 seconds at higher RPMs (but not at an idle). So a low freon level (low pressure) is not necessarily the case.
Could be. One person reported that they took it in and the dealer added shims to the clutch. That can (but not necessarily) fix the clutch squeak, but I wouldn't think it would change the interval of the clutch engaging and disengaging.
Another post said that sometimes particles in the system clog the orifice, causing the cycling.
