ok first of only 99 and up have a wastegate so if you have an old truck then don't worry about it we are already getting all the boost we can(with exception to other mods!!!) the wastegate is a valve in the turbo that as boost is built and reaches a certain amount (not sure what amount) the vacum line going to the actuator opens that valve the bleed exhaust come into the turbo housing straight into the exhaust outlet into the downpipe therefore reducing the amount of possible boost. so with the wastegate disconnected the turbo is building boost to is full potential which is dependant on other things like a chip or injectors, intake and exhaust.
if i have missed anything somebody will fill it in.
Easy and fast....
Look to the rear of the engine, driver's side.
See the turbo back there? Good!
See the gold canister with a red hose plugged into it?
Work the plug off, just move it around, nothing holding it on.
Now, take that plug on the end of the red hose in yer hand....
See the two long bolts sticking up that hold the boot on?
It's about 10" in front of the gold canister, straight towards ya...
Just put that plug on the end of one of the bolts.
Done!
Leave the gold canister as it is, with the "hole" exposed.
Now you'll start to notice the boost bleed off at about 8 pounds instead of 5.
Don't worry about the hissing, it's normal.
Unless ya got a boot leaking.
But then again, you should do the CCV mod also...
If you'll click the "user cp" button right above your first post you will be taken to your user control panel, where you can create a signature containing the pertinent info about your ride, that way the other users will be able to help without needing to ask.
Does that do the same as when I got my chip it came with a short piece of hose and a small tube that had a hole drilled in it? I noticed by putting that on the check engine light didn't come on when tromping on it.
yes. that tube actually allows the wastegate to still function, but delayed. got it from blackclouddiesel, didnt you? that means that when you tromp on it, it will build boost rapidly until the waste gate feels it needs to dump some boost. it just allows more pressure in the line so that when the sensor sends the pressure through the line, it takes a little bit longer.
No got it from Performance Unlimited. About 3 years ago. Since then have 86 the chip as it kept shoting out due to loose clips. Went with a Hypertech programer. Not as much power but atleast it don't die on the freeway in rush hour trafic.

Thanks for all the info. Hey STEVE_250 what is the CCV mod?
Rerouting the vapors from the case to outside instead of through your turbo. Turbo and boots get oily and can possibly slip off under pressure.
Do a quick search or go back a few pages, plenty of posts on it, some with pics.
Yeah I pulled my hoses and tubes off yesterday and got about 1/2 cup from them dried all and re installed. Will check again in a 1000 miles and repeat. If still that bad my pull the intercooler and take to Radiator shop and have Boiled out and pressure cheecked.
