OK, I had a very similar problem on an 88 I had several years ago. Everything inside worked with the key on, and it would also crank, but it wouldn't run. To make a long story short, there was a black wire that went to the negative terminal of the battery. That wire broke, and my truck died instantly. It took me a little while to find it. Once I repaired it, my truck fired right up.
Its supposed to be hooked into the terminal I believe, but mine was actually cut off and hooked onto the nut on the terminal with a wire connector. Its about a 10 gauge stranded copper wire that goes to the terminal (or is supposed to) lol
Hi ya i found that one took it off but no change... when i turn the key i dont get the click sound of the pump at all... it will crank but not start i have tryed to get code with key on not running but my code reader gives me nothing...... by morning this thing may be on ebay if anyone wants picsa and info let me know
Dont get rid of er just yet. This has to be somethin simple. Trace that black wire goin to the negative terminal down to the end. See if it has been hit or cut in half somehow or somewhere....
Hi well its real strage do to the fact a couple days ago it ran fine started fine and now this stuffffffffffffff anyway this is the last truck i will ever tune up it ran fine till i gave it some new parts now it dont know what to do lol anyway with all the help and all that i have done i am seriously looking into just finding a new old truck lol....
thanks for trying... if you have any more ideas let me know!!!!
Thanks again!
James
Hi very true.... however this thing is on my mind night and day i have had only little sleep last couple days trying to figure this out the whole thing is getting stupid to me now..................
Quicklook is right. Anytime I'm in a pickle and somethin stupid aint makin sense, I'll sit down and have a beer, or even go to bed and wake up in the middle of the night thinking of the solution lol. Give er a try.
No the computer doesn't control any accessories only the air/fuel ratio and timing for the engine. You have and electrical problem. It could be something as simple and a shorted wire or a bad ground. You need a Haynes manual to trace the wiring. The problem has to be simple but you need to know what you are looking for and the Haynes manual will help you.
