Blowby?

if there's a little oil coming out on top of my valve cover is this ok. there's not much but just enough to make the valve cover dirty. And is there a filter in there? (on top of valve cover)

Over time that will collect fine dust and build up to this thick mud. MESSY! And if it's leaking a little like that, it can turn into a larger one later on.

are you talking about the driver side valve cover with the a small housing on it held by 2 screws. if you are then yes you have a small leak. the blowby is probably normal but it goes thru this housing into your intake. there are 2 o-rings on the bottom of that housing and they break up and leak. they are special o-rings from ford. i replaced mine then about six months later took that housing off and they were already swollen so couldn't get them to fit again so i put regular round o-ring in there and seem to fine. the o-ring either way are cheap.

as far as a filter there is sort of but its just very course metal mesh similar to steel wool and doesn't need to be replaced.

hope that helps

All I did to fix mine was run a bead of silicone around the openings let setup for an hour then reinstall. No leaks and wasn't hard to keep orings in the groves. Also saved 8 mile trip into town.
