I have a 97 Taurus GL 3.0 auto. The tranny lost a carrier bearing a couple years ago and I had to get it rebuilt. Anyway, it seemed OK but now, since I travel back and forth between Phoenix and San Diego at least twice a month, I've noticed a couple things that drive me nuts.
1. It don't like to downshift 1 gear, it likes to jump down 2 and scream with absolutely no increase in speed. 1 gear would work just great but not 2.
2. and most annoying, the torque converter will drop out of lockup every 10 to 12 seconds consistently on the 350 mile trip. The RPM increases about 200-300 for about 1-2 seconds then locks up again for roughly 10 seconds then repeat. It doesn't matter if I'm going up a slight incline or down (like a freeway overpass), 65mph or 85mph, a/c on or off it rhythmically drops in and out of lockup.
Any link suggestions?
What kit would best serve my needs? I see a couple different ones advertised for this year Tortoise and way different pricing.

I have a 2002 Taurus and I also hate the fact that it refuses to shift down one gear, and all it does is feel like the whole car is about to fall apart from the massive viberation, and yet it has almost no effect on the actual acceleration. An on the same note my car also does the fluctuating RPMs on Interstate, I was told that it was most likely a vacume leak but somehow I have never found out how to fix it. So if anyone can help it would not only help one person!!!!
i don't think 2 cents of the ax4n or the ax4s. I have broke the shaft in the ax4n and blew out the differential in a different ax4n. JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
