95 Ranger PCM Bad?
95 Ranger PCM Bad?
Guys,
My son in law brought home a code scanner and when we hooked it up it would not link to the PCM. I am thinking that the PCM must be bad. Any thoughts here before I spend the 300 bucks to get a new one?
95 Ranger XLT this one has the OBD-I instead of the EEC-V on it so it must be a late 95 model.

Welcome to FTE!!!
I think you mean it has ODB-II, thats what the late build 95s should have. I have seen a few people with issues getting codes from the 95s but don't recall the solution, does anyone remember anything that can help him.

If it still runs OK, I doubt it is the PCM. Double check the connections to the scan tool first. I have had occasional problems pulling codes off of brand new vehicles before and usually wiggling the connection helps things seat properly. Check continuity between the data link connector and EEC before placing blame on the computer itself.
The truck is not running the fuel pump doesnt work and there is no fire at the spark plugs. The fuel pump was jumped out to get it to run so its not the fuel shut-off. The pump will run with the jumper in at the relay. The truck is in good shap other than this so I guess the 300 to get a new computer wont be so bad. Maybe I could get 1000 or 1500 for the truck after I get it running.
