im looking at removing the huge bench seat from my chop top 71.. wondering if any one had a good idea for a replacement bucket seat choice thats easy to fit, im not a big fan of racing seats due to my over sized guts!!! but i do like to be comfy!

A seat from up to 91 fits on the stock 71 rails, or you can make a custom mount and run whatever seat you want. I am putting bucket seats from an 88 Subaru in mine, very comfortable, and the adjustable lumbar support is nice too.

If you want a comfy bucket that will fit with a min. of fab work, then try late model high back bucket seats from an Aerostar XLT or EB.

I installed a set of pontiac fireo seats, they had speakers mounted in the head rest, best place for speakers when you got a fuel tank in your back.

I toyed with the idea of Focus seats in my '83. I know you have those in AU. There kinda comfy and can take a larger person. Don't know about the mounts tho.

Well, the main selling point was they were in super condition. I pulled out all of the carpet and insulation on the floor. Then I set the seats in the truck and looked at where things fit like arm rests and leg room. After that I cut off some of the Crown Vic mounts and tack welded on some at the desired height I wanted the seats. Then once I got the mounts where I wanted them I drilled holes and welded the mounts. Bolts were next and I ran the wiring the other day. I have to build a custom console next week because there is only 8 inches between the seats. I will mount the seat switches in the console. Comfy leather power seats with lumbar supports for a grand total of $75($50 seat pair $25 switch pair)! I think this is too good to be true!

Seats

Hi guys, it's been a long time since I've been here, no computer at my house anymore, so I only get to get on once in a while. I put buckets out of a 95 ranger in my 70, with a work in progress center console. Hopefully i'll get a computer so I can post some pics, it's taken me a long time, but it's going to look great. If you do custom seats, don't drill holes in the floor of your truck, fab something that allows you to use your factory brackets. You might have to drill the rivets out of the sliding rails, and use the sliders that come with the other seats. Good luck.

Why do you say dont drill holes in the floor board? I have thought about bucket seats but my gf says NO. lol she wants to be able to sit beside me. plus with a bench I can fit 3 or 4 folks.
