I have a 76 f100 with a straight 6, 300 it has a 3spd trans that I want to swap for an auto. What trans will bolt up to my motor? When I get more money I would like to swap over to a v8. Also, how hard is it to to put a front suspension off of a car so I can bring it down a little bit.
C4 is most common auto behind small blocks & sixes. Will bolt ot engine w/proper flexplate, length of driveshaft may need changed, also some sort of shifter& trans cooler needed.Lowering parts are available, why do you want car stuff on your truck?Brian
The C4 will bolt up behind a 302 or 351W also. If you use the OEM mounts and pieces everything is just a bolt up. The holes in the frame etc are all there. The only problem is the driveshaft length. You may need to change rear end gears to get the most advantageous gears for a particular motor. You may also want to drop in an AOD instead of just a plain C4. If you use the <SEARCH> function you will find all kinds of info here on the subject. I know, that requires that 4-letter word "WORK" but you will find answers lots faster.
I don't blame you on the suspension change, check out my profile. I am putting a 3/4T GMC suspension under the front of my F250. I wanted to keep the load ratings and the big brakes.
dont' like I-beams... man i've drivin' lots of trucks and i wouldn't trade my I-beams in for anything else.. maybe it's because i tend to go off road a fair amount, haul loads, and use mine as a truck... i'd look into drop spindles. a simple way to lower it...
as for the tranny, find a used LTD 83-85 w/302 and aod... makes for a good cheap change, and it works great
