Some weeks ago I was touring in the back country near Sedona, Az and my aero quit dead. It wasn't hard to diagnose, the fuel pump quit. Back country dirt road, miles from nowhere conteplating a 500.00 tow bill.
We had some friends pick us up. When we finally got home, I bought a new pump and formulated a rescue plan. I took a 5 gallon container of fuel, connected a long fuel line to the new pump and an electric line to the pump.
I plopped the pump into the new container secured in the van, connected the hose to a splice just before the fuel filter. I looked funny with a hose coming out the side window going under the truck but it started and ran perfectly.
They don't call me "bring 'em home alive Ken " for nothing!!
I really like my aerostar, I don't know exactly why. Maybe it stimulates my creativity to keep it running, perhaps it is a hobby like aerocolorado. Anyway, this forum has unbelievable collective knowledge, I am very impressedeach time I come here.
we love our Aero's because they are more beautiful than a new Ferrari, handle better than a new Corvette and are as dependable as a good woman.
God, when I dies, I wants my hide tanned and put on the driver's seat of a beautiful woman's Aerostar.
That way, I can spend the rest of my days between the two things I love's the most.
Hi Guys,
Which brand of fuel pump shoud we buy ?
Mine is acting up: noisy and sometime a loud vibration buzz. I think I should replace it before it quick.
TIA,
Fordboy49
You can buy a Motorcraft one either at Autopartsgiant.com or Rockauto.com. I wouldn't go aftermarket on something like this. Besides, there is not that much difference in prices anyways.
Not that hard but the fuel tank is heavy. You would need a lot of muscled help. Run down the fuel tank first, though. No sense in lifting all that extra fuel
