I installed a floor shifter on my '73 F-100 with 3 speed manual, and now I want to get rid of the column shift lever because it looks stupid and usually hits me in the knee while driving. I pulled the pin from the base of the shift lever and....nothing! It will come out about 1/8" and that's it. It spins freely, but won't come free. So, what's the secret on getting these levers free?? You could pull your shift lever or slip in a replacement column. Most guys just replace the column, give the old one to the scrap yard, a buddy, or sell it on eBay.
I have never pulled apart my column but the books show just the pin retaining the lever??????
