I would like to know what the difference is betwen the 73 f100 exlporer and a 73 f100 ranger. This is just a curiocity question. I am also having alot of problems out of my 73 f100 its has a 302 monted to a c4 trany. My prob is it ran fine up till i put a distributer in it after the fuel lines cloged (wich i fixed) and a new fuel pump and carb rebuild if it does start it lacks alot of power i also have the timing set right. I would greatly apriciat any help. (pardon the spelling)
The exhaust isn't clogging up is it? Still sounds like a timing issue to me. Maybe the advance isn't hooked up right.
The ranger and explorer were just different trim packages I believe. I don't know the exact details though. I Know that the Ranger's had more options than the customs usually.
The Explorer was the top of the line trim package.
Check your engine vacuum level. It is a key indicator of an engine's general condition. It will tell you if the timing and mixture is right. It will also tell you the condition of the valve train.
I once bought a new distributor and could never get it to run right. Finally checked the vacuum advance. The rebuilder had turned the adjustment screw all the way in. Started adjusting on it and straightened it out. Something to check.
