PS does anybody know if Ed Pink is still kicking? I met him twice after that at Seattle International Raceway and Portland International race park. Smart guy in my book.
I remember, as you probably do also Fred, the Black vs Pink advertising campaigns the big drag strips would put on ? Here was engine builders being touted, not drivers, not owners, no celebs, engine builders.
Ed Pink is still around, Keith Black is not from what I recall. Sept's Hot Rod had a big article on Ed Pink, he's still building engines. He has a line of engines for almost every class of race car. Ed said after the pit crews started rebuilding their drag motors after every round his business went downhill so he went into different areas.
Wasn't there a good thread about this a while back, where it was agreed that the v10 was too long a stroke to really raise the redline?
And back to the 3v/4v topic, isn't spark plug placement easier and (more importantly) cheaper with the 3v set-up?

I don't agree............the V10 will do pretty much anything a 5.4 will do (RPM wise) and power should increase aprox. 20%. I'll double check but the N/A 5.4 Cobra R and the GT motor redline in the 6000+ RPM range......yes, a lot of piston speed but it's being done.
Please explain the "cheaper" part of spark plug placement....
I recently read about the accessory drive flexing the front of the V10 crank, might have been in this thread! This was related to blowers and how much you could realistically drive the blower without breaking the crank - but someone has engineered a bearing support for the front of the crank.
ALL the Modular motors should have the EXACT distance from the last main to the end of the crank. In other word, if this is a problem on the V10, it would also rear its head on the 4.6 and 5.4............which I've never heard.
Fred also mentioned a 2 piece crank on the V10's a while ago........I'm at a loss on that also..........never heard of that.
Now, just because I've never heard of it doesn't mean squat, BUT the 5.4 and 4.6 have factory blowers driven from the crank as well as many aftermarket applications.
Captchas has a cool picture of a roots type blower on a V10.
Captain, would you do the honors????

I do not believe there has ever been a 5.4 in a Mustang, other than the very rare 2000 Cobra, all the other Cobra R's had a supercharged 4.6, it made 390 hp. The only 5.4 4V other than the GT/2000 Cobra was in the Navigator.
Sorry to stray off topic, but I believe only the '03 & '04 Cobra (there were no 'R's in '03 & '04) had the supercharged 4.6. Additionally, the other Cobra R's ('93 & 95') had n/a 302s and 351s respectively.
